Default JVC "Reset 08" messages

Does anyone have suggestions on fixing the "reset 08" error messages that crop up on JVC head units (I have a JVC KD-AR5500) and require disconnecting/reconnecting the cable between the SIR-JVC1 and the head unit to fix?

I've searched around, and while it's suggested that loose cables can do it, I'm convinced this isn't the case for me... my cables are all quite snug, and the fact that pressing buttons on the HU quickly is a good way to exacerbate the problem suggests to me it's not caused solely by bad connections.

My SIR-JVC1 is somewhat jammed into a small area behind the dash, so I could believe it's heat-related.

Is it worth exchanging the SIR-JVC1 for another one?

Thoughts?

Thanks,
---Joel Kolstad

It might be time for a swap or find a new place to install the unit.

The manual says that "Reset 08" means "Your HU is not connected...correctly."

This happened to me twice and I fixed it by making sure the j-bus was plugged in all the way and securing the cable so that there is no way it could come loose. If the cable comes out even the slightest, it will flash the "Reset 08."

It has something to do with the tuner and the head unit losing communication. This is not a heat related issue. Most folks I know that have gotten this error had their tuners in places where there is just no way it could be overheating, including my setup. It also appears that certain model head units are more prone to doing this than others.

Angry

Just had "reset 08" happen to me for the 5th time since October. This is getting annoying and I feel one of these days I'm going to break my dash trim panel by popping it on and off. I may have to put the Sirius Tuner in a place where I can easily get to it to unplug the unit and plug it back in.

I sent an e-mail to JVC and of course they give me the "generic" answer:

Thank you for contacting JVC Customer Care.

I understand that your unit flashed "reset 08" on it's screen. This message comes up when other external units (cd-changer or a Sirius
radio) are not connected securely. This can usually be fixed by securely reconnecting and resetting the external units (especially if you have a CD-Changer).

What I find most annoying about "reset 08" is that it does require disconnecting & re-connecting the cable (or pulling the fuse for the head unit & waiting a bit). It wouldn't be nearly as bad if just hitting the reset button on the HU fixed it!
