Default Sportster Problem

I've had my Sportster receiver installed in my car since January '04 and haven't had any problems until the past few months. I am getting an X and "aquiring signal" message at all times. I am lucky to be able to listen to 5 seconds of a song without it going silent. I have called customer service and they have told me the same things each time I have called. They told me to turn the unit off, unplug the antenna wire from the back of the cradle, wait a few seconds, plug it back in and turn the radio back on. That didn't work. Then they had me change FM stations a few times. Each time I called they gave me another number to call for "technical issues" and it went straight to the prompt for technical issues you get on the main number and the phone just rings and rings after that with no answer. I really don't want to have to replace my receiver and pay for someone to install a new one. Has anyone else had this problem?

Do you have another antenna that you can try on the radio? Or can you try the radio in another setup like a friends or relatives cradle and antenna? That will help isolate the problem.

You might also want to check for any kinks in the antenna cable and also check to see if the cable looks tight where it goes into the antenna.

Default Antenna

I don't have another antenna to use with the car kit. I did try it in the boombox cradle and it worked fine. It works in the car when I am stationary, but as soon as I start driving it stops working. Is Circuit City able to replace the antenna only?

I'm assuming that when you had it in the boombox you were using the boombox antenna. If that's the case, it does sound like a car Sirius antenna (or coax) problem. Yes, the antenna is replaceable as a single item. Someone experienced with sat radio installs should be able to double-check the diagnosis as well.

P.S. There's an outside chance the car cradle is the problem, but I doubt that it is.
