Post Sportster Replay

Hi,

First post. Last year, I got a Sportster Replay for Christmas. It's a great radio. I set it to 87.7 to broadcast the signal. I can keep it on the home dock I bought in the living room and it is strong enough to hit all the stereos in our house with great sound.

I got a second sportster replay for christmas this year so I could have one for the car and one for the house. The first thing I noticed is that I can't set up the receiver to transmit on 87.7. It starts at 88.1. The second thing is that the range seems greatly reduced compared to the one last year. If I dock it in the bedroom, my shower radio in the next room can't even pick it up.

Do I have a defective unit, or did they really cripple the range of the sportster replay that much since I got my first one last Christmas?

Your last sentence (question) says it all. That's what happened. Some here called it neutered. Neutered or crippled, the current units don't have the same range nor do they tune below 88.1 MHz.

Terrestrial broadcasters, through the NAB, pressured the FCC to enforce the Part 15 rules they already had on the books for these devices.

If you want to use that 2nd radio in the car, and it's meant to be a permanent installation, you can purchase a $20 FM relay (I believe some call it the FM direct adapter). Switches the input to your car radio to be from either the current FM car antenna, or the Sirius radio FM modulator output. Check out this link. They should be available in stores that may be local to you, such as BestBuy and Circuit City. Some cars may require additional adapters to install this such that it works. Depends on the car.

I guess that I should just be thankful I have one from before they crippled them then.

Thanks for the reply.
