Default Signal Loss

Just a question for all of my fellow Sirius Subscribers.

Is it common to be losing my signal when it becomes very cloudy outside and some rain is moving into my area?

It doesent necessarily lose the signal all of the time, but, the strength of the signal weakens when it starts to become cloudy.

For the most part, I am at 75% signal, but, when the clouds come in, it ony gets about 25% and, occasionally, will lose signal all together.

I have an S50 radio with the home docking station. Does it have something to do with the radio i have? I tried unplugging the docking station, and, plugging it back in when this happens, and, still, it doesent get the signal. It seems like I have no choice but to wait it out when the signal drops due to weather.

I was always under the impression that a satellite signal was solid and it will VERY RARELY drop. I guess i was terribly mistaken ?

No it's not a common thing. There will be a bit of attenuation, but not enough to cause problems. It's normally not enough to see on your display.

I've been a subscriber for 3 years now.. I've been through many major thunderstorms where Dish Satellite TV was completely knocked out, yet I was still getting full bars on my Sirius.

I have no idea why you lose your signal whenever it looks like rain.. Perhaps someone else might be able to help.

Right now, i have the antenna only 4 feet high in my backyard (Actually, sitting on a small picnic table).

I ordered the below antenna:

http://www.tss-radio.com/sirius-outd...88f9196b2931c6

Do you think this will make much of a difference? i will be mounting this on the roof of my house.

If I am getting 75% only 4 feet off the ground with the standard antenna, should this make a significant difference ? Sorry bout all the question. I am just worried I may have wasted my money due to the signal in my area

hmm.....

strange thing just happened. Just for the hell of it, i got the "Car kit" out and used that as the dock instead of the home kit.

100% signal. And (I hope I am not speaking too soon) but, it is staying solid at 100%. once in a great while it drops to 75%, but, jumps right back up.

Is it possible the car dock picks up a better signal? That doesent make too much sense.

Weird

I think the car antennas are just less directional than the home kit antennas. This is probably why your home antenna loses signal from time to time as the sats move in the sky. I use a car antenna with my home kit for exactly this reason, and it gives me a more reliable signal. That outdoor antenna you will be mounting on your roof should give you very good signal since it will be up high and it's a good antenna.

Well, I should clearify. I am using the Car Kit with the home antenna, and, so far so good. 100% Satellite Signal and staying solid.

It just seems that as soon as I started using the Car Dock, it just pulled in better signal all together. It is the best signal I got since owning the radio last week.
