Default do all sportster3s have the old style fm transmitter?

I'm looking to purchase a sportster3 off fleabay. Do all the sportster3s have the old stronger type fm transmitter or do some have the nuetered FM transmitter. If some are nuetered is there a way to know by looking at the packaging?

The Sportster 3 and 4 were released after the FCC fiasco of last summer, so I'd expect they all have the low powered (FCC legal) transmitter.

When they released the Sportster 3 it had the Good FM transmitter then about 6 months after the FCC made them change it to the weak one.

The Sportster 3 & 4 radios do not have the old style FM transmitter, but the Sportster Replay did have it. Perhaps that's what you meant, theuppergrove?

I think the only hard and fast rule for finding the stronger transmitters is to get a radio that was built before June 2006. Everything built after that should have the 'FCC legal' transmitter.

Of course this isn't easy, because Sirius doesn't put the date of manufacture on the radios.

jwt873 is on the money. Look for a model built early in '06, Mine is a prime example, I've got a Starmate Replay that was bought in Jan of '06 which has the "illegal fm mod", my GF got another Starmate Replay with the free offer back in September and that has the new "FCC legal version". Probably your only option now is to find on on Ebay.
