My understanding is they do honor the extended warranties at BB/CC. But I don't have the Lifetime and I have never follow-up on this enough to know for sure. Perhaps someone that has one and did a swap can let us all know if they honor extended retail warranties or not.

You'll be able to add me to the LF sub list here pretty soon...

I disagree with "it's the obvious choice." Had Sirius not put in the 3 transfers at $75 a transfer rule it would be the obvious choice.

With the technology today do you guys seriously think your only going to go through three units in your lifetime? Hell, I'm on my second unit in my first year.

Not for me...

I'll use more than three transfers in a lifetime, but I will also be smart about them. I have the SL100 now, any new device would have to really pack the features for me to consider switching.

The chances of your antenna failing and causing the defect are far greater than the actual unit itself failing (obviously the older a unit get, the less true that statement is...but hey, that's electronics for ya). And if it is just the antenna that fails, you can just replace that w/o having to replace the whole unit.

No, probably not. But the three receivers don't have to function for a lifetime for you to come out ahead. They have to last through $724 worth of sub fees, or about 56 months if you go through all three. Or $499 worth, about 39 months if you stay with your first. After that, your investment pays over 30% per year, until you get tired of that first receiver, or it gets tired of you.

I'm 8 months past break-even, got in at the old $399 price, and on the original receiver. Lifetime paid off beautifully.

I have a Life time sub. I bought 2 receivers (XACT visor) - one of tem is for spare part usage , If anything goes wrong with the unit I can replace some parts from the spare unit (buttons, case, display, circuit boards, etc... of course the little board with the special sirius ID can not be replaced but is very easy removable). I already had to change one button on the front panel. I will change the unit for a new one, just in case I dont have any spare parts or a new receiver with new technology or packed with realy special features will be available.

You should also note that if your lifetime sub receiver is stolen, then the transfer is free and doesn't count as one of the three allowed. Sirius can request a police report, but in my case they didn't (depends on which rep you talk to I guess).

I just paid for lifetime last week and my receiver broke this week. Did they charge you the $75 fee? Also, do you have to pay for activation on the new receiver?
Thanks,

Just to update:

As mentioned, my receiver broke just after I ordered a Lifetime. The CSR I spoke with said this will not count as swap, since the receiver broke. The receiver is not under warranty, so I hope he is correct. I'll call Sirius in a few days to confirm that I still have 3 swaps available.

My brother also got in at the old $399, with an in-dash Clarion from Circuit City (they installed it too) in his Dodge truck, and he's been listening for free now about 1 1/2 years. The lifetime sub is worth every penny. That's why Mel wants to get rid of it. Not enough future revenue there.

so from the above; am i right to understand that if i have my radio for 5 years and it conks out, they won't charge me $75?

even if i get a better radio?

if that's the case I'm definitely gonna scoop up the lifetime sub as soon as I can afford to.

Don't count on it. Any time you swap to a new tuner that broke out of warranty, they should charge you $75 and count it as one of your three allowed swaps. Now if you call and get a less-then-knowledgeable CS rep or one that's in a good mood that day, they may allow you to do the swap without charging you anything; but if they go by the book you'll get dinged for $75 and one swap if your radio wasn't under warranty or was stolen.

Very true....The 1st CSR I spoke with she could not waive the "swap", but she would give me a $40 credit towards the $75 fee. I told her it wasn't the money that bothered me, it was that the swap would go against my 3 allowed. I called back a few days later and CSR #2 said he could waive the "swap". Looking on my account on-line, there is no $75 fee either.

+1 for Sirius Customer Service
