I'm a little disappointed to hear the less than stellar reviews of the Conductor... but I'm not surprised. I figured the whole "100 feet range" was a little too good to be true.

And I'm not surprised about it being a battery-eater either. I had a remote with an LCD display and it did the same thing.... the Conductor's remote also has to put out an RF signal on top of that. However, have any of you guys tried lithium batteries? They're more expensive but they'll probably last a lot longer.

Apparently the issue with the remotes consuming batteries too fast has been somewhat resolved. Though I don't know how long it will take before the engineered units will hit the market. But we have to send some Conductors into SIRIUS for testing. Units that can't seem to get much range at all. They really want to find out if some Conductors are working better than others, and that it's not simply a part of a high rf environment.

Maybe if they design a smaller remote that just operates the radio.....

As for the "out of range" issue, I had the same problem. I reinitialized the radio and now the remote works as advertised within 40 feet or so. When I get beyond that (40 to 50 feet), the remote occasionally reports "out of range" if it is not pointed in the direction of the radio.
I bought the same Energizer 15 minute AA charger plus the AAAs that are not included at Lowe's. Given the battery consumption rate, they should pay themselves within 1 year, although I did waste the time to figure it out exactly. I really wish they would redesign the Conductor remote with a rechageable pack and a charging cradle like my Harmony 880 universal remote.

Painted Antenna, what is the likelihood that Directed will swap these battery munching remotes with the new design for those of us who already have them?
