Default Using car antenna for universal boombox

I recently purchased the universal boombox for use in my house. I can get reception upstairs but not downstairs. I have read that the car antenna seems to provide better reception than the antenna that came with the boombox. I presently have a new Starmate 4 receiver. I had an old Sportster 3 radio and car kit but the antenna from that does not fit in the boombox. Will the car antenna for the Starmate 4, or one of the newer receivers, fit in the univeral boombox? Does the newer car antenna really provide better reception than the boombox antenna? Alternatively, is there some type of adapter that I can purchase that will make the car antenna from my old Sportster 3 fit in the boombox, and if so, where can I get it? Thanks for the help anyone can provide.

If you have any window wells in your basement you could try putting the antenna near the window, You may need to experiement to find the right spot, I actually get a better signal having the antenna on the floor below the window well then right up on the window ledge, must have something to do with the angle the signal comes thru to the basement.
I have okay reception from a window in my basement but because the satellites are contantly moving I usually have to move the antenna every 20 minutes or so which gets annoying.

If you want to listen in your basement you could try mounting your home kit antenna outside or buy an outdoor antenna and run an extension cable to the basement. You could use a splitter and have a cable run to your upstairs and basement. Another option would be to set up a computer/laptop by your stereo log onto the online feed and connect it through to your stereo.

As far as antenna reception, I've tried my car antenna, home kit antenna and boomcube antenna from the basement and haven't noticed much of a difference in receiption. They all work pretty much the same downstairs.

The Car Antennas with the 90 Degree Angle Connectors won't work with ANY of the Boomboxes. They may work with some home kits though.

The Outdoor Antenna will work and it's highly recommended.

I just know if you want to use the Boombox with a car antenna it will be a dead end and expensive lead.

I doubt you will see a big improvement, but there is a way to use a car antenna on a boombox.... Sorta. I am a locomotive engineer, and I had to find a way to use a magnetic base antenna with a boombox...My solution was to use an XM micro2 antenna. It comes with straight end with a farka connector, and a 90 degree adapter that can be added to the end. You can carefully cut the plastic farka connector from the end of the antenna and the straight end that is left will plug into your boombox. Again it doesn't improve your reception, but if anybody is looking for a similar solution, this is the only thing i've found.
