JJS from Oneonta. I was one of the first subscribers in Sirius's home state of NY. I listened online for months, but, if you used your true address, and didn't have some sort of inside track, the first activation date, for upstate NY only, was 6/1/2002. I'd tried earlier but they'd turned me down; at the stroke of midnight, my call was in and I got the hit and was finally able to leave that preview channel. Downstate had to wait another month.

First unit was the Jensen SSR2000 from Crutchfield. This was a car receiver with no power supply. I attempted to run it with a 12v wall wart, which almost immediately fried. So I shanked it to my PC's clean 12v power. Listened at home only, until May of '03, when I finally found a head unit with the right features, an Alpine CDA-9807, with audible fast forward on MP3 CD tracks, and the all-important Aux jack. Ironically, that one was XM ready. But I asked the installer to wire my glove box for 12v power at the same time, and from then on I would occasionally take the Jensen, antenna and all, out for car listening.

Upgraded to a PNP1, and a $399 lifetime sub, in November of '03. Still works perfectly, and now only about six months to go before total payback. Makes me feel a little better about having been totally wiped out on Sirius stock purchased in '99 or 2000. Added an XMPCR in Feb '04; listening is roughly 50/50. Sirius has dominance in Public Radio, and it's also the one I can take to the car. XM for Frank's Place, Watercolors, Luna, Bluegrass, and others.

Also catch quite a few poetry and drama webcasts on BBC Radio 4.

Shouts out to Sirius fans from Montauk Point to Fort Niagara

Eric Hjelm from Farmingdale (Long Island). I subscribed to Sirius on 6/14/2005, a week after my favorite radio station WCBS-FM threw me out on the street back in June.

My first radio was the Kenwood H2E that I purchased from Crutchfield. I installed it and activated it within a half hour, and I was instantly impressed. A few days later, while my dad was in my car, he enjoyed it so much that I got him one for his car, another Kenwood H2E.

My third unit was the SIR-ALP1 tuner that I am currently using to develop software for Sirius. I currently have a tracking program that is, so far, functioning correctly, and my streamer program is also in progress. As soon as they are ready, I will be happy to share them with everyone on SBS.

Dad and I have gotten so much into Sirius that Mom wants one too. She likes to listen to Sirius on the Internet when she's doing work. Her Kenwood H2E is sitting under the Christmas tree.

Six months after subscribing, I am absolutely obsessed with Sirius. I love the system and the content, and I'll never listen to regular radio again.

SIRIUS ROCKS!!!

-Eric

Well, it's not Fort Niagara - but a stone's throw away! I'm not the first, but I might be the latest (as of this posting time). My S50 arrived today, in absolutely frigid temperatures I installed it in the car - put on the preview channel - came into the house to defrost and activated the unit.

The wife, well all she can say is "so, it's just a toy"... Well, it's my damn toy and she's already starting to talk about it mounted in her vehicle (there's where the baby's carseat is hence what we took tonight).

I travel a lot for work and have tried both XM and Sirius in different rental cars. I will admit, Sirius had me hooked right away.

So, from Lockport, NY a big shout out to all your New Yorkers!

Default Long Island, NY in the building.....

Hey everyone...

I'm from Ronkonkoma, NY (Long Island) and I have been a Sirius subscriber since September of 2004. My first radio was the Audiovox SIR-PNP2. I got the complete setup with boombox, home dock, car kit. I have been enjoying Sirius ever since. I loved it so much that I gave Sirius as gift to many of my family members last year. They all love it too.

Now, over a year later of my first radio, I now have a Xact stream jockey with lifetime sub and an S50. I also own some SIRI stock.

Sirius is amazing...and anyone that has heard it will tell you that they're never going back to listening to commercial radio.

Any other subs in NY gonna post? Come on now.......

Default One more from Long Island

I was not the only one who came to Sirius when WCBS went jack. When Sirius hired Cus Brucie, that was it. I went to Sirius.

First got a Starmate in car. Came with free home kit (Radio Shack rebate for the home kit that I actually got). Got the home kit stand to wedge into face of dash between ashtray and storage box. All wires are well-hidden and using tape adapter. Sirius rocks.

Got sick of the poor online streams, which I have wired into home stereo. Went for second Audiovox SIR PNP3 with home kit and hard wired to stereo. Strangely, I am getting 10 bars terrestrial with the antenna on inside of window. Home stereo goes all over house. Sirius rocks.

Did I mention that Sirius rocks.

Greetings from Auburn, NY, in the heart of the Finger Lakes. Got my first Sirius radio last Christmas... a Sanyo. Then my wife got hooked on it, and six months later got her a Starmate.

I love Sirius and can never go back to terrestrial radio. I even stopped listening to Howard Stern this past year because I was too hooked on Sirius. Thankfully I'll be listening to him again in a few weeks!

Excelsior!!!
