Count me in. I'm from the northern end of the state. There are a batch of us from the local university that have sirius, we just leave them in the cars, so you can walk by and see. Unfortunately I have a shakey suspicion that I'm hte only one here, would be pumped for someone to prove me wrong though.

I visited Kennebunkport, Maine on the Fourth of July a few years ago. No sign of H or W though.

Just got a summer place up in Biddeford (the nice part LOL)... Went to Maine in 2001 to visit my niece who just started USM, and just kept going back... Great place!

I'm also from here, born and raised.. Kennebunkport is barely in the state, it reminds me of the people that tell me they were in Maine once, they went to Kittery to the outlet stores.

I drive to Presque Isle or St. Stephen NB for Tim Hortons. Gotta come up into this area, it's quite different than Southern Maine.

Can anyone here tell me more about Bangor? I'm thinking of moving there for a job. What is the town like. I've been to Portland, Kennebunkport, Ogunquit....how does Bangor compare?

Ogunquit is too beautiful people for me *laughs*. It depends on what you want. Bangor is like a metro area with less bulk. Easy to get around here, 24 hour McDonalds, Dennys, Dysarts (local truck stop), 24 hour gas stations, etc. It's pretty much the hub of the Northern portion of the state.

There's 33,000 people in the city, 155K in the greater Bangor area. UMaine Campus is about 10 minutes away. It's roughly 4 hour driving trip to Boston and about 2 hours to Portland. It's 45 minutes from the Atlantic Ocean.

Climatewise it's about on par with Portland. We have some pretty bitter cold days but generally the peak of cold weather is between 1 and 5am. Winters are all in all rather mild, 15-20 degrees (great snowmobiling weather). There's 15,000 miles of snowmobile trail in this state, with several ITS interconnects around Bangor.

If you want any more info specifically, feel free to ask. Some things are covered on www.bgrme.org too regarding city services and activities throughout the summer and fall.

I'm also considering going from Greater Boston (or close anyways) to Bangor. My brother is planning to go to college there, but there are no dorms, so he'd need an apartment. Unfortunately, he has little work experience and to ease his stresses, I'm considering moving up so he can stay with me. Plus our other brother lives up near Ellsworth with his wife and little baby girl. Seems tough to find decent work from here that isn't medical related, though...

Born and raised in Maine all my life, lived all over, from Ashland (30miles west of Presque Isle) to Calais, to Pittsfield (35 mins west southwest of Bangor) and actually lived in bangor for some time, but now back in Pittsfield currently, Bangor isn't bad, depending where you live, i liked it there when i was there, thou like someone said further up the there are 24hr stores and crap, but not to many, like the 24 hr mcdonalds, is only drive up, and after a certian time, you can only have selected foods, the Dennys is in the northern part of of bangor, where as the Dysarts is all the way at the other end, actually its not even in bangor its in hermon, theres also only one 24hr dunkin donuts, and i beleve a total of 4 or 5, im not saying its bad, i liked bangor, but its gonna be a big change from boston, where everywhere you turn theres either a dunkin, or mcdonalds every 1 or 2 mins its lot bigger change

I lived right next to Bangor growing up and then went to Orono for college. Now living in Southern Maine. Bangor isn't a very happening place, in my opinion. Not bad, but there are 2 Maine's, Southern Maine and the rest of Maine. I have relatives up in The County and I enjoy visiting. We also have a camp in the Allagash, near Baxter. Bangor is more in Central Maine, but does have 45 minute access to Bar Harbor, which is a great place in the summer. Portland area is where it's at in Maine. Beaches, Old Port, quick trip to Boston, etc.

FYI...

I spent 14 years in Bangor before moving to Connecticut. I now do my best to avoid Maine at all costs, even though my mother's family is up there. Even for someone like me, it's too slow up there. I've started calling it North Alabama.
