Default Sirius Stream Explorer: www.ItsOnSirius.com Another Update!

EDIT (March 7, 2004)

http://www.ItsOnSirius.com

click here for the update notes: http://www.siriusbackstage.com/forum...?p=78345#78345

EDIT (Friday Feb 21st):

http://rebeltech.phpwebhosting.com/index.php

I have updated the Sirius Stream Explorer. The new version is very configurable. You can select not only which streams you want to view, but also the order in which they are displayed. You can also specify a timezone for use with displaying the last time an update happened.

There is also a skin feature! I will be making a few more skins next week. Anyone interesting in skinning this, PM me, it's all simple HTML.

I have also stabilized the software here at the house, it was a combination of my satellite dish being a bit off and Windows 2000. I've had my dish repointed (Satellite Internet here) and moved the radio to a Windows XP machine.

Oh, the options are currently stored as cookies on your computer.

Also you will notice below all the streams, is a listing of the total number of unique songs on file and the number of times they have been played. And the last time/date a stream was updated.

EDIT (Tuesday Feb 17th) : I am working on the stream selection interface, here is a preview:

http://rebeltech.phpwebhosting.com/streams.php

THIS WILL NOT SAVE ANY PREFERENCE YET. But if You guys want to check it for functionality and give me some feedback, I'd apprichiate it. And if someone wants to make some nice eye candy button, that'd be nice!

It looks like my stability problem is more a problem with Windows 2000 than it is my software. I'm hooking everything up to a Windows 98 box here at the house and plan on having another at a friend's house who has a cable modem (which will probably be done next week?)

EDIT (Saturday Feb 7th) : I have resolved some of the stability problems with the software running on my pc hopefully, it will help. I will be out of town again this week, so ...

I have started creating what I'm calling "Sirius Stream Explorer". The page is here: http://rebeltech.phpwebhosting.com/index.php

As you can see, I borrowed the stream icons from the sirius web page and the stream descriptions, also if you click on the stream icon, you will be taken to the sirius web page for that stream. hmm... maybe it should open the page in a new window.

Also, the display is VERY configurable. It uses a template HTML file so you can easily skin the page and change the way the information is displayed.

Feature's I'll work on tommarrow:
Be able to customize the list of items. I want to be able to have someone remove streams and change the order they are displayed. Plus add some more configurations to the template file

EDIT (Friday Feb 6th) : I'm home for the weekend and will try to keep this online all weekend.

http://rebeltech.phpwebhosting.com/Its_On.php

It's crude, it's very beta, but it works and it's Live!

The page should automatically Refresh it's self every 30 seconds.

Any PHP Programers out there wanna help? I'm open to layout and design ideas for this site as well.

I love this! Great Job. At first I thought the 30 seconds was to fast on the refresh but once you get used to it it's great. Thanks so much.

Rock on. Is the goal to link or incorporate what you've done into SBS?

That's a Jeff Question... I think Jeff is going to get the "Sirius" reaction to all this first.

As the lineup is Sirius' intellectual property, I would expect the creator to get a cease and desist email or letter in short order. Looks handy, but I doubt they'll like it. :\ Don't get me wrong, I think it's great, but corporate lawyers don't like this kind of grass-roots stuff.

I don't think there is anything they can, or for that matter would want to actually "DO" about it. I think if they are broadcasting the info, it is public domain at that point, and besides that, this in fact would/could only be an asset to them as a corporation by possibly helping it's current subscribers, and interesting future subscribers potentially. No concrete knowledge on legalities here, but just an opinion.

Awesome job (gotta love phpwebhosting too - I was with them for a couple years).

As for the cease and desist - why would Sirius want to stifle this? XM sites already have this capability and it would only bring in new subscribers when they could see what is actually played on the channels rather than listening to a short tidbit of an online stream.

Creating an archive of the last 50 songs per stream would be awesome - just integrate each stream into a drop down box so you could check to see what has played - personally - I think that would bring a lot of positive attention to the Sirius lineup.

Not working for me at 11:10PM PST. Classic Rewind is stuck on Peter Gabriel, Sledgehammer.

Also the date shows Feb 2, and it is only Jan 31 here, soon to be Feb 1???
