Default Who (doesn't) update the main page?

As a Sirius subscriber who has all of his radios working wonderfully and knows how to use them just fine, I have little reason to continuously visit this site. However I like to see any and all updates and news pertaining to Sirius. So I check the siriusbackstage.com homepage regularly to see whats going on. But lately its seems to go 7-10 days in between updates. I've been finding myself not checking at all and would probably end up stopping altogether except for when I need something.

This is not a complaint. Just stating that this is a good site for Sirius information and would get higher return visitors like myself if the blog page was updated more often.

wile e- TulaneJeff does 99.999999% of the blogs now. If you want the latest news (as with anything) then visit different sites, Orbitcast and Satellite Standard Group are both good ones.

I would recommend SSG www.satellitestandard.com because they usually have a lot of Sirius/XM news everyday.

Ahem, punch me if you want, but I agree with wile e. I just like the news. That's all I'm into. Haven't been in the forum much at all, but I assume I'm not missing much, besides the always intriguing "Is Tommorow a Friday Show????!?!?!" Threads.

I've only been using SBS for a few months - but from what I can tell - this place is all about the forums. That's its strength, it gives people a place to ask questions and get reasonably accurate and courteous answers (if deserving.) There are some people on this site that will help you - and do so with a smile. That's hard to find and even harder to create. Jeff's probably got 1 million (or so) other issues to worry about (keeping the site up and running, work, life.) However, you must say that the whole Halloween interface redesign on the fly, and the level of accuracy and professionalism (unbiased) on the main page are an huge effort for 1 guy. As far as I know, nobody here gets paid to hang out write stories about SIRIUS and the satrad industry - or new emerging technology. So, I appreciate what does go on the front page - it is interesting and helpful. However, I see the real power of SBS being the user driven forums. It's someplace where you can find help - after paying a couple hundred buck (or more) for a radio and subscription, and not being able to get it 'just right' - this place helps you tighten it all up nice and proper. I have rarely seen a question that was asked courteously and without attitudes go unanswered - and many that are rants and obviously angry tirades, get answered with eloquent advice. Again, I’ve only been watching the site for a few months – but I like what goes on with the front page. Maybe make a ‘user submission’ feature that let’s users submit articles and information on a proactive basis. That could be monitored, edited and approved by Jeff or whoever he deems appropriate. I dunno, but thanks SBS for the front page – I’ve seen cool stuff there.

Chris

I personally think the OP is right on. The fact is we've done a very poor job keeping up with news on the blog. Will that change? Stay tuned!

IMHO, this is a message board that posts news, not a news blog with forums.

I also think deserve a full refund of their membership fees.

We have a saying around my neck of the woods: 'He'd complain if he was hung with a new rope!'

DAB, you can say that, and I agree to an extent, but isn't there more to be said? If I understand rightly, the users of this board can post to the blog. We can't edit or delete our threads or posts on that blog, but that sort of holds our feet to the fire. What is the policy on blog threads being displayed on the home page? Are member submissions ever used, or is it just mods?

Edit: I just noticed we can't start threads on the blog.

I'd like to have people submit their Sirius articles for moderation in "Sirius Insiders Blog"; (it is possible) then if it's approved then while it is approved, someone will add it to the front page.

After half a year, I'm still working on that vB-WP bridge...

Capn, I wish I had more info to answer your question. I am not sure what is going on with the blog. I can only do what my moderation level of access will allow me to do. In all fairness I've not tried to blog, because blogging isn't my thing. But I agree if folks could submit information to the insiders blog, we could then approve or disapprove it so that it would post to the front page. Again this is all admin stuff, so my hands are tied. I am not a real happy about the current state of affairs, but I am powerless to change it at this point.

It seems like most of the Sirius sites went silent about the same time. GetSiriusInfo and Sirius Fan Network also have not been updated lately. My own site DogstarRadio has been stagnant for a few months. In my case a newborn baby is the reason. I don't know what's up with the other sites.

Being a mod for Backstage for over a year I know what's happened. The following is the truth, folks should know it...

Sirius used to support this board, but for whatever reason that support soon stopped. As you can imagine, this was extremely disheartening, and for me and a few others caused anger. I always wondered why the admins here weren't doing more to get Sirius back on board (which caused more anger). Anyways, the admins became disheartened and have moved on with their own lives. The blog hasn't been updated in forever, the chat has been down for 3 months, the board is basically running itself. Luckily there are a couple of mods that are still doing their job (and a lot of loyal members). I would recommend the admins pass down their duties to someone who can do them, not sure who these people would be, but for this board to continue people with some motivation need to take over. If they don't this board may crumble, and that would truly be a tradgedy because this place can be so much more. I know, because I saw it be more.

As someone who has learned a lot from this forum I would be very dissapointed to see it close down. I am not familiar with the inner workings of this site and was not aware that sirius at one time supported it. I hope that the folks in charge will do the right thing so that we can continue to post here. If there is anything that I can do in my limited capacity please just ask.
Sincerely....rob
