There used to be an option to delete your own post. Now I can only edit them. Why was this functionality removed?

I'm sure a Mod has the power to do this, but I was going to clean up an old post and could not delete it.

Thanks

Mike

You should be able to do a soft delete, but members cannot physicially remove a message. Maybe RyanM can follow-up on this one.

So if you go to EDIT and then select Delete and give it a reason, does it give an error message or just not do anything?

Deleting of your own posts has been removed due to people sabotoging their own posts. If you need your post removed, PM a moderator or just edit it to say "Mods, please remove" and we'll remove it when we see it.

How do I remove another member? Is that a service you provide?

Just let us know who and we'll let you know if that service is available.

I'm glad to see the ability to delete your own posts has been taken away because I've had posts deleted from someone who felt the need to delete a thread they started--which results in every post in that thread being deleted. But, I don't quite understand why the EDIT button disappears after 24 hours. It really is a major pain in the ass to have email/PM someone every time you need to edit a post.

Granted, I'm not very familiar with vBulletin, but isn't there a way that you could remove the "delete your own post" function without having the edit button fade away on us?

I am looking into this to see if we can grant the edit feature to users who have shown they are here for the duration. It was removed after realizing that a user that was posting without his company's permission was removing all of his posts using the edit feature to protect his job. While this case is just an example, the editing of all previous posts has happened on more than one occasion. If the user had asked for our assistance with hiding his identity, we would have been able to help. Instead, it makes the reading of these partial threads very difficult.

Why not just an "edit history"? Sort of like the ones they have on Wiki's.

My opinion is that if you haven't edited a post within 24 hours, then it would hopefully say what you wanted. I know most of the mods don't mind editing post if they are asked too. It isn't like this would happen all the time. Most would catch any edits they needed to make within the 24 hour time frame.

XM411 has always had this 24 hour rule, in fact I don't even think it's 24 hours I think its something like 12 hours.

Perhaps RyanM will find a happy balance, but it is always hard to just give a select few editing rights without this being something you have to manage. So, I say just leave well enough alone.

Some people edit later than 24 hrs to update as more information is known. Or some people want to remove the entire post as it now may not apply and may confuse the issue.

Understood and when those rare incidences for most posters come up, they can let one of us know and we'll update it... GLADLY!!!!

Maybe RyanM will find a method to allow this, I am just giving but one opinion.
