Default Sirius Canada Christian Channels

What is up with only one Christian music channel for the Canadian line-up? Something is not right there. Does the CRTC find more than one too offensive??? Now I really appreciate getting subscribed to Sirius when I did!!!

Yep, I can see your point. Eight Sirius music channels were cut from the Canadian lineup. We in the USA get all the Canadian content, but you in Canada do not get all the American content- including Howard Stern. What is with that?

Hey guys,

I, too, am quite choked that there's only one Christian station compared to the 3 that are offered to the states; I might as well just stick with the boring local Christian station we already have!

I'm new to this satellite radio stuff. I noticed that the Christian station for Canada was #66 (i think) and then 67 and 68 are blank for canada but for the states, those channels are the other two Christian ones. Any chance that they'll be available to Canadians but the canadian website just failed to put it on there?

Cheers,
Kevin.

it really does stink. maybe the CRTC is offended by Christianity? go with the U.S. package. it is cheaper in the long run believe it or not. my one year pre-paid subscription is less than the $14.99 CDN per month, and i get all the channels!!!

I'm not a fan of "Christian" radio, but I suspect the real reason for only including one channel on Sirius Canada has to do with the Canadian content requirement. I doubt there's much if any Canadian content on those channels, so including one more would mean dumping one of the other non-Canadian music or talk channels. If Sirius Canada thought that they'd get more subscribers by doing that, they'd do it.

(And a correction- US subscribers don't get all the Canadian channels- we get five of the ten- CBC 1, CBC 3, Bandeapart, Iceberg, and Premiere Plus.)

I don't know what to believe. I've read that we get five of the ten now and the rest early next year. but here mentions we'll only get 5.

1 christian station isnt enough for you? You need 3 to tell you the same thing? Would you go to 3 different churches on sunday? I hardly find religious stations to be the biggest priority as do many people.

It has nothing to do with the message of Christian radio, its the presentation/style of such. Do you think all rock music is the same? Or all country , or R&B? The three Christian channels are gospel (black urban), adult contemporary and harder rock- the three don't necessarily mix. You need to study your music genres some. There isnt just one kind of Christian contemporary music.

One Christian station, zero Jewish stations. What are you complaining about?

So in your thinking there MUST be a jewish station, muslim station, islamic station, buddist station, etc. I dont see why people complain there isnt more christian stations when theres tons of unrepresented religions that these same people dont seem to care about.

I don't think the CRTC has a problem with Christian channels for ideological reasons; they licence Christian radio stations all over Canada all the time.

I believe that because the requirement was 10 Canadian channels per 100 total channels, Sirius had to make a decision which of the 90 to include and the 2 other Christian channels (amongst others) got the boot.

If having 3 is important, try lobbying Sirius to restore one of them and delete another low rated station instead.

I would rather see a multifaith channel. Unfortunately most "Christian" channels seem to represent a rather small segment of Christianity i.e., conservative evangelicalism/fundamentalism. I would much rather see a multi-religious channel where all kinds of voices are represented. Something like a radio version of Vision TV.

I was just looking at the Sirius Canada lineup, and I see two "Christian" channels, not one. The original poster apparently missed EWTN Catholic Radio at #160. And there's also a "Christian" music channel at #66.

EWTN isn't a music channel.

Besides, most who label themselves as "Christians" probably aren't interested in a channel to help pray the rosary.

My mistake- I forgot the original poster was talking about "Christian" music stations.

I'm not so sure about your last comment though- according to Statistics Canada, the majority of Christians in Canada are Catholic, so EWTN may not be a music channel, but it's certainly one of three (66, 159, 160) "Christian" channels on Sirius Canada!
