Default Vancouver Repeaters

I got a perfect signal in the depths of a BC Ferry tonight. It seems Sirius is not having the same problems that xm is having. XM is right on top of a frequency that a series of links are using by a previous licensed party.

Wow, when I rolled on the ferry yesterday morning, I turned it off assuming the signal was going to disappear...

Was this on the Tsawwassen-Swartz Bay run?

Yes, and I'm going to test it out again later today.

Now if only Victoria would get a repeater I'd be a happy camper. Lots of dropouts on W. Saanich Rd and on the way to Sooke.

Basically anywhere with dense trees is trouble.

Worked for me when the ferry pulled back into the dock....

Victoria doesn't have the tall buildings of Vancouver but the number of streets with almost complete tree cover is huge. But I doubt they will get one very soon....I don't think the population numbers are there or the high density. I am not sure how the repeaters work (or even what they look like) but I doubt one installed somewhere in the downtown area is going to help out with W. Saanich Rd or the Sooke Rd dropouts.

CBC owns Sirius Canada right? CBC Transmission has a tower near Goldstream Park (Mt. McDonald) so if they put a repeater there it might actually cover a large portion of the south island. Who knows... the population of the region is 400,000. Not huge but not minor either.

I'll probably cancel my service if there's no improvement in 4 months. There are too many dead spots (not huge mind you, just enough to lose the stream for a second or two) on my commute.

I experienced some bried dropouts driving down Shelbourne, due to the tree covering.

I am not getting the Terrestrials in the Newton area of Surrey at all. SAT is coming in 100% around town without any dropouts so far.

Cheers,

I got a brief drop out last night while driving down Expo Boulevard in Vancouver (under a bridge). I also get a couple of really short, almost unnoticeable dropouts while driving along W. 12th Ave. between Ash and Cambie, but I think that all of the construction going on in that area has something to do with it.

Other than that. I'm absolutely thrilled with my reception, and I'm telling everyone I know to get Sirius!

Just out of curiosity, what FM station do you use for broadcasting? I'm using 88.1 which I'm pretty happy with, but there's a station at 88.3 in Vancouver that can bleed into the signal depending on where I'm travelling through the city.

I use 88.1 myself. 88.3 has a distant low power FM station on it. It seems that all of the 88mhz band split is saturated with lower power FM stations (i.e border info, some college, new westminster emergency radio station, etc) .

It was funny, just the other day I was behind this SUV at a intersection and I could see his sportster replay on his dash listening to the same thing as I was. He was on 88.3 :P

I drove across the border yesterday and as I got further into Washington, the signal on 88.1 got worse. I switched to 107.9 and left it there when I got back to Vancouver, and so far so good.

Just another alternative for the Lower Mainland folks!

Thanks for the tip! I switched from 88.1 to 107.9 today and noticed a difference. There seems to be less intereference whe I am driving around the city.

I was using 107.9 until Friday night, when I started getting dance music while around Kerrisdale/Kits, but works fine in Richmond.

You were probably picking up someone elses sat radio or ipod fm modulator. I get that all the time...
