Did they actually say Jan 1st?

Last I heard it was going to be "in January" which could be Jan 30th for all I know.

But I could be wrong.

Sorry for the dumb question; I have a US sub...

I assumed that all 10 Canadian channels were available to Cdn subscribers...is that not the case? Are you only getting the 5 that the US is currently getting?

Hmmm, I wonder if they'll add the other 5 Canadian ones to the US subs when they go live then...

Default No channels above 184

With a Canadian subscription, you don't get 184. Scrolling through the channels skips over 184, except when you first call in and subscrbe. I can however, input it manually via direct. I can also put it in my presets. There are not channels above 184. All the channels that are listed on SiriusCanada.com above 184 are not available yet. I distictly heard January 1 when I was sold the subscription. Thus far there is still no difference between a Canadian and a U.S. subscription. I have both. I know, I'm obsessed... A compulsive news junkie...

I may be wrong, but from what I've read in previous posts in this forum, if you want to hear the channels above 184, you need to use a Canadian radio (purchased from a Canadian dealer)..

Sirius Canada will activate U.S. purchased radios.. With a U.S. radio, you get the Canadian programming, but apparently U.S. radios will not receive channels above 184.

The reason to me is unclear so far... It's been proposed that there is something special in Canadian sets that allows this...

Here's my guess: When the unit is activated, a "Channel Mask" is sent (along with the activation key) that controls what channels the radio will tune. I've got two radios, both activated with the Canadian service using a Canadian CC and address, and one gets 100/101 et. al. while the other doesn't. The one that gets the "US Channels" was ordered over the web from Sirius US while the other radio came from a Best Buy here in Ottawa.

I suspect that deep down within Sirius' control system it "knows" which radios are Canadian (by their ESNs). It's got to be pretty deeply buried as there was no indication at activation time that the Sirius Canada agent knew one radio was US and the other Canadian.

Cheers,

Sounds like something with your radio, because I have been able to get the 184+ channels since before christmas, with my Canadian reciever.

And Canadian subscription?

I haven't tried >184 on the US sourced radio, but it gets the US channels that my Canadian one won't (100, 101, and a bunch of other music channels).

FWIW, The 'limited' radio was activated as a '2nd receiver' on the same (Canadian) plan as the 'US Content' radio.

Cheers,

That's my guess too.. All they have to do is set up a database with US and Canadian SID numbers...

I've seen posts here at Sirius Backstage where people have had problems activating because the radio they were trying to activate was "unauthorized"... I'm pretty sure this happens when Sirus doesn't have the SID number in their database (manufacturer mixup or whatever) and as a result they don't recognize it at all...

But what's the business reason to have US radios unable to receive all the Canadian channels?

There's a reason why the Canadian channels can't get all the US channels, but why shouldn't the US radios get all the Candian channels?

Most likely the thinking is that the five-channel lockout makes a grey subscription less attractive to Canadian subscribers.

I have a US purchased radio with a US sub. Are you saying that if I go "legit" and activate it on the Cdn sub that I'll still get all of the US channels?

Are you missing any of the US channels? If this is the case, then there really isn't any reason to have a grey market subscription, is there?
