Default Where to Point Dish?

Is is the same for the US one? All of my stuff has been purchased in the US and the manuals tell me to point it for Area 4 which is West, North West or Southwest. I had a good signal last night but no signal when I woke up this morning. I am trying to set up my home kit.

Thanks!

Woody, the sats 'move' in the sky. They are on an elliptical geosynchronous orbit, which is techie-speak for saying they do a 'figure 8'. The sats are turned on as they reach the southern US border going north, and turned off as the next sat does the same. Learn more in the 'Space Nation' forum.

What this means for you and me is that you need to point the antenna so that it's beamwidth covers the entire transmitting part of the orbit, or there will be dropouts. Unfortunately, with an antenna indoors, the signal is often too weak at the northern and southern extremes, and there are dropouts anyway. I ended up getting an outdoor antenna; that solved the problem. The antenna that comes with the home kit will work just as well, if placed outside and aimed properly.

It all depends on where you are located in N. America Woody. I'm in newfoundland, canada, and I have my antanna pointed towards the west on the outside of my house. I've had no issues with dropped signals as of yet. You might just need to make some minor adjustments to yours, but the safest bet is to invest in an outdoor antanna. Cheers

Thanks, I am in Ontario. The Map in my Stiletto H Kit says Zone 4. I am pointing towards the SW and getting two bars which does the trick.

The satellites orbits take them from the Southen USA across the Canadian
border into Northern Manitoba, so in the West you'd aim East, and in the East you'd aim to the West.

Here in Edmonton I don't even worry about directions because I'm getting the
signals without any effort. I keep my boombox on my night stand next to my bed, and the antenna just lays there. I get perfect reception, and my window faces South. When I pop the radio into my car, I get perfect reception with the antenna laying on top of the dashboard.

Here in the eastern end of the province I ended up pointing it pretty much straight up = full bars almost 100% of the time.

Pointing it straight up (if outside) usually is the best option. I'm in Ohio, so according to the manual, I should be aiming West/Northwest, but outside and straight up gives the best reception for me.

Today I was getting full bars pointing it to the north east kind of towards Ottawa and at home I get two pointing it to the south east. I think straight up would be it.

The Focal Point would be somewhere around Minnesota. So point it in that direction wherever you are.
