Post New Channels coming to Sirius Canada?!?

Just offering my two cents on this issue, so please hear me out (and dont bite off my head). I 'm not trying to be the bad guy here, but this stuff has got me hoppin' mad

Until this gov't gets rid of some of the dumba** taxes we pay for and also drops the whole CRTC crap and starts to come up with their own services rather than just copy the US lead services, and Sirius Canada also lowers their equipment prices what would the point be in me dropping my US sub to hop on to Sirius Canada's bandwagon? There's only one obvious reason (you support Canada this and you support Canada that)

I'm a US sub and wouldn't go back to Sirius Canada for my life until they and the Cdn gov't start to smarten up

I have a CDN Sirius Account. Taxes are annoying but they pay for many service that Canadian take for granted i.e. Health Care, Education etc. The way the Canadian Dolloar is going it would be cheaper to have a Canadian Account. The CTRC is soo F'in annoying.

Can somebody tell me (besides the addition of a few different weather/music channels), what is the difference between the two services????

Very little. A few missing US channels (soon to be added) and a few extra Canadian channels (most of which are pretty good (CBC RadioONE, CBC Radio3, Iceberg)). Otherwise, the service is pretty much identical. Same equipment and not much difference in pricing. We don't have a 128 bit streaming service yet, but that's about it.

You simply can't ever have a message board or thread about telecommunications in Canada without someone posting about how much they hate the CRTC. Personally, the CRTC is a mixed bag. A lot of stuff they do is necessary and done well (and the sat radio issue was well handled by the CRTC), some of which I'm not a fan of (HD adoption). On the good side, the CRTC simply laughed off the famous "wardrobe malfunction" that sent the FCC over the edge.

That's your opnion tho....Personally I think the CRTC is a total waste of Canadian tax dollars. I mean c'mon I don't need someone to tell me what I can or cannot watch on TV or hear on the radio.... and I know this has been repeated by other people as well

the FCC does that somewhat, but not to the extent that the CRTC

I think they're just doing that to protect their entertainment industry. They don't want it to end up the way that some countries in Europe have where 95% of the TV shows are foreign.

Well put Johnny Canuck and emory. After university, I took a job in New Zealand and went there expecting to hear a lot New Zealand artists on the radio and programming on the TV. It was a real disappointment to hear/see that it was all American stuff. The same top-40 stuff you hear in the States and US programming on TV. There was nothing unique. Who wants a world where your travel 1000s of kms and get the exactly same entertainment/food as you do in suburban Dallas, Chicago or Tampa?

I think the way the CRTC goes about its business is often too bureaucratic but I support their basic aim. The more cultural diversity the better, IMHO.

Besides, I happen to like the Canadian channels Sirius has. Energie2 is one of my faves. So personally I am glad that Sirius decided to use the CRTC rules to create quality channels. If everyone had the same approach we wouldn't bitch about the CRTC so much.

The irrelevance of a government mandate that forces channels most care nothing about and can obtain easily elsewhere is more than slightly annoying and does nothing to preserve Canadian "culture".

It's a joke here and elsewhere. I would like to believe that people choose what they find entertaining regardless of it's source. That's the beauty of the Internet and the modern age of communications. Borders are becoming increasingly irrelevant in this information age and legislation that dwells on making such distinctions seems very xenophobic.

Just my two cents though.
