I'd like to see a station that could go from Zydeco to Celtic to acoustic blues and feature some of the less commercial, but more interesting folk artists from the sixties to the present (Dave Van Ronk, Utah Phillips, Taj Mahal, Nancy Griffith, Greg Brown and even Ewan MacColl, Leadbelly or the Holy Modal Rounders). XM's The Village plays some of this but they lack soulfulness and mix in a lot of mediocre sixties frat folk groups like the Kingston Trio, the Limeliters etc. Surely Sirius can do better.
Sirius is and has been hits based, much as I would like to hear deeper music on the channels, its not likely to change anytime soon. Even with a folk stream you are going to hear all the 'popular' artists and songs, and probably multiple times a day. Something to be said for having variety, even if some of what they play isn't for you.

The Kingston Trio "mediocre" ? Surely you jest, or you simply don't know good folk music.

I think a distinction can be made between traditional folk music and contemporary folk music. Sirius would do well I believe if they would have a channel to represent each. Of course the breakdown of the genre could go further. Two channels at least are needed (look what they do for rock music), and zero channels means a big marketing hole.

A channel for each? Are you forgetting that there isn't any at all? I am getting so disgusted with Sirius over their channel line-up.

I agree, that a channel for each new and old folk is a great idea, and to cover all bases, get an Alt Country channel going as well. Sirius covers Rock and Hip Hop from all angles, overlapping considerably. They lack big time in the Contry/Folk genre. Kinda hard to believe they forgot about this one.

Friday, I sent and email to Sirius Customer Service asking if they have plans to bring Folk back to Sirius, here's lovely response I received today/Tuesday:

Dear Glenn,

Thank you for writing us here at SIRIUS. We really appreciate feedback
from our customers, and every programming change that is made, reflects
the interests and voices of our listeners.

If you enjoyed listening to Folk-Town, you will enjoy The Coffee House
// Ch. 30.
Coffee House will feature singer-songwriters from Dylan to Indigo Girls
plus acoustic rock. We invite you to pull up a funky chair and join us
for a cup of Java and great acoustic rock from the world's best
singer-songwriters, many of which were featured artists on Folk-Town.

We continually rely on customer feedback and research to enhance your
entertainment experience. As we strive to create the most diverse
listening experience available, we find that feedback like yours is
crucial to our success! We would like you to know that we are
forwarding your comments about the creation of Coffee House // Ch. 30
to the appropriate programming team for review.
