I’m with you, Beesong. I would also very much like to hear Cape Breton music. Much more than the majority of the music that Folktown played. Hopefully that’s what one of the Canadian channels will bring me.
You said it well! And I forgot to list Buffy Sainte-Marie, too.

Yes, Cape Breton music definitely needs to be more available. If the Canadian channels are to offer 50% Canadian content, I'll be very pleased. They definitely won't just have to replay Gordon Lightfoot over and over!

What a disappointing announcement...
You all should try Folk Alley. It's internet radio but I've been listening to it for almost a year. I think it's much better than Folk Town and the folk on XM. Plus, it's free. I listen to it all day at work from my computer. Work has suddenly become more enjoyable! It's at folkalley.com . They don't have specialty shows, it's just a really cool mix of folk music - classics and new, Celtic, roots. It's worth checking out.

Larry,

I think we're all aware that internet radio does us no good in our cars, at least for now. That doesn't concern me. I don't find myself in my car more than 45 minutes a day anyway. I DO find myself sitting in front of a computer for 8+ hours a day however, and I have folkalley right there with me and I'm happy for it! It's great folk programming.

Well, anyway you look at it you'd think they would just want to put more varity. Instead we get just what they want to put up there. What they want. But isn't that why we got the sirius for more varity? When they said they were going to change around the stations I was excited now I am just pissed. They are taking away Raw Dog, wtf? Like I said whether I listen to it once a week or once a month or everyday, now I have less choice. So they are ditching raw dog and giving us Christian rock? Stuff it Sirius.

Now where did ya hear that Sirius is taking away Raw Dog ? I myself never heard about this removel of Raw Dog. I do know however they are renaming Cracked Up Comedy to Laugh Break. So I am just thinking you got the 2 confused but neither of the comedy xhannel are going anywhere from what my new channel lineup card says.

Well they are, they are switching channel #'s and going with a more family oriented line up ie Bill Cosby, Jerry Sienfield, Howie Mandell etc...

You really need to check your facts before posting. In reviewing the new guide Raw Dog is listed as channel 104. So, NO they aren't removing Raw Dog to give us a Christian Rock Channel, where do you people come up with this stuff?

Here’s what Sirius has on it’s website about the cancellation of Folktown:

>>The music you love on Folk Town // Ch. 38 will be heard on The Coffee House // Ch. 30 and SIRIUS Disorder // Ch. 24<<

This is not acceptable, there is no reason we should have to listen through a lot of stuff we are not interested in just to hear some folk music once in a while.

We need to let them know how disappointed we are in this:

Default Buddy Cage & Bob Dylan Radio Hour

From what he and Emily Anton have said on the air, Buddy Cage is going to find a home on Jam On // 17. (That's great, because he's got a great history with playing some of the greats in the genre)

Michael Tearson, who I had the pleasure of meeting at the South NJ Heart Walk, dropped me an e-mail and said that the Bob Dylan Radio Hour is going to be picked up on Sirius Disorder // 24. It will be on Sunday at 10 AM and 7 PM, and will also have a third airing on Thursday at 5 PM.

Edit:
PS, The real kicker? Hearing the "The american folk music tradition is alive, on Folk Town" sweeper TWICE today on FolkTown.

A real Bummer!!! BTW - kc1 wrote 'don't know Tom Paxton personally, but I was at one of his concerts last winter ' - I saw Tom in cncert at McCabes in Santa Monica last year, and he is amazing to see - a don't miss " JG

That’s one station-ID message that I won’t miss. I never consider folk as especially “American”. Bob Denver, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor and Joan Biez are OK to hear, but there is way more out there in the folk world than solo people playing guitars. When will Sirius ever get Folk aficionados to do the programming of the Folk channel? The kind of music that the decision makers at Sirius prefer is obviously of a different category.

Oops. The Folk channel is no more.

F*@%!ng Sirius.

XM focuses on older folk, which is why I got Sirius (since I liked the fact they included lots of newer folk). However, since The Coffeehouse plays NO FOLK, I'll probably listen to Folk Village (XM) more. I'm listening right now and the playlist so far has been: Patty Larkin, Joan Baez, Judy Collins, James Taylor, and Joe & Eddie. From what I remember, they play an awful lot of Tom Paxton.

Default XM FREE TRIAL

I just signed up for the 3 day XM trial. I am impressed with their line up !
When did they make all of these changes, was not like this when I was shopping between the 2 satelites over a year ago. I like the Folk offerings not to mention the Americana stream. I must say I am impressed. I have 3 radios with Sirius, I will definatly drop one and pick up XM this weekend. Funny how things happen......
