Default New Country 31 and playlist depth

I'm currently listening to a live365.com web stream of a country station, which is the first non-Sirius music I've listened to in literally months.

I'm hearing all kinds of songs I've never heard before on NC 31. NC 31 needs to broaden its playlist in my opinion.

I had the same complaint about Alt Nation a few months ago, and they have since improved it.

In general, I'd like to see Sirius have fewer channels that cover a broader spectrum of music. I don't like clicking all over the dial to hear what I want. I like to pick a station and let it roll for hours, and maybe hear some of the hits mixed in with some of the lesser played, odder stuff.

Glad to see someone else echo my feelings. I keep saying who thinks we need to listen to music by decades. One of the reasons I listen to WSM. Let's keep pounding on 'em!!!!

I think New Country and Roadhouse both need to improve their playlist. Prime Country isn't too bad, but they pull from the 80, 90 and also play some of today's hits. So their playlist is naturally bigger.

Roadhouse has NO excuse whatsoever for the small constantly repeated playlist. XM's America by comparison has a huge playlist. Then there is also Hank's Place, which has a significant playlist.

They do need to fix 31, try WSM for a change.

Sure wish they would give WSM the same bandwidth as music channels even though I know they'll never move it to the music category because of the commercials.

The playlist is pathetic, to hear the same song 4 times, as is the case with many songs in one 9 hour period is just not good.

I like New Country 31 but yeah they do play certain songs to often. They really need a top 20 countdown on the station playing the top 20 most requested songs of the week. Whenever I had to much of new country I always either go to WSM Prime Country or the Roadhouse.

Although I would also like to see the playlist expanded, I do not think that NC31 is that bad.

I was wondering a while back how many songs they played at least 4 times per day so I used the wonderful resources out there to find out that they only played a few songs more than 4 times in the few days that I tested.

Since this topic came up, I just ran another test and found that they ran a total of 213 unique songs on NC31 on September 12th. Of those 213, only 19 of them were played more than 3 times with 4 of those 19 being played 7 times. I think that is not too bad.

On the 11th, they had 170 unique songs (would have had more if not for Patty Lovelace on there). Of those, only 8 of the songs were played more than 3 times with 3 of those 8 being played 5 times.

While I do agree that some stations play way too many repeats, I do not think that New Country is one of them. The fact that they are able to play 200+ songs in one day is not a bad playlist.

Over that two day period, 285 unique songs were plays.

Just my opinion though.

Hey ZMAN what a good look into the NC31 playlist. Seeing that really makes the channel look better. I know some songs get so many requests throughout the day I can see why they get played 4 times or more a day. Tahnks for looking that info up.

Thanks.

Without the old itsonsirius.com (and now whatever the new name is), it makes it easy to search for all of the songs in a day.

I then copy it all over to excel, do a little work and create a pivot table to get the quick summary of the total times a song was played within the requested time period.

A few weeks ago, I did the same test on Sirius Hits 1 and they had quite a few songs played at least 12 times and the most played song was that new Missy Elliot song 19 times. Considering that Hits1 and NC31 are essentially the same channel, but different genres, I think NC31 is doing pretty good only playing a handful of songs more than 3 times..

I've got to admit that Hank's Place is better than any of Sirius's country channels.

I agree if all you want is the mainstream hits then Sirius will be pretty satisfying, but if you want deeper and much older classic country, you XM with Hanks Place win's hands down.

Sirius Roadhouse plays the same songs over and over. It just makes no sense to me how they allow their playlist to become so stale.
