Default Technical Question... Saving Artist in Alerts

Why can one not save comedians as artist? It only allows one to save the title. I have the Sportster 5.

Because comedians do not get an artist ID code assigned to them, but the routines do get a track ID assigned to them. Artist and Track alerts work by saving a code that is sent in addition to the title information we see. That way songs of the same name don't trigger alerts.

If you like I Want You by the Beatles, you might not like I Want You by Marvin Gaye, Bob Dylan or Elvis Costello. I'm sure other people have recorded different songs with that name as well. You won't even get an alert for alternative versions fo the songs by The Beatles, in the unlikely event Sirius were to play one.

Now, the question is why doesn't Sirius assign artist ID codes to comedians?

How do you save artists in alerts? I have the Sportster 5 and I don't see anywhere to do that. I can set sports alerts, but not artist alerts.

I would love to know when Metallica or ACDC are playing, but I can't figure out how to get it to alert me when one of their songs come on.

Refer to your manual. But it's like the rest of the Sirius PNP head units, hit the "memo" button to save artists or songs.

The ARTIST/SONG alert is set up differently than the Sports alerts. You have to wait until the Artist/Song is playing on the radio. Then you press the "Memo" button. At that time you will be presented with a menu of "Save Artist" or "Save Title" then you can select either the atrist or the song. You can't set them in advance like the sports alerts.

Thanks for the help. I just went and programmed like 15 bands I really like. I didn't even realize I could do that with my radio. That makes it so much better. Now I can listen to Howard or sports without wondering if I'm missing music I really like.

I love this feature!!!
