Dude if you read other posts later on you would see that I realized I was wrong. Yet you still seem to want to attack me on that whole thing.

I must disagree. They didn't "adopt" it but they did start with it as a baseline.
Worldspace broadcasts in several beams from two satellites in the L-band. Those beams are aimed at different locations and carry different content.
XM broadcasts in S-band and while they have two transponders aimed at different locations, both of those transponders still cover the entire continental US.

The Worldspace satellites also have baseband translators whereas the XM satellites are just "bent-pipe".
The modulation techniques are also very different.

Worldspace, in their 2006 annual report, stated that they tried to use XM technology for their new ETSI digital system with repeaters for Italy.

They had to abandon the effort because WorldSpace engineers determined that XM's technology was not only very different from WorldSpace, it was also incompatible.

You can read the patents on the modulation techniques for more details.

Hi Itguy, you can search for the patents owned by XM and American Mobile Satellite Corporation (the old name), Motient (the old divested founding partner), and just SDARS.

There is much information updated in the Wikipedia article and Patents Online.

The pictures of the Sirius "data center" are really funny only because they are so shoe-string, with ethernet cables hanging around and empty boxes in huge piles, desktop computers in racks, and the like (check the pictures of their "hierarchical modulation" systme for a good laugh). They don't like showing those pictures.. The XM data center, on the other hand, is super professional by comparison.

The AMBE codec is really good sounding at 8 kbits/sec.
If you have ever used Audible.com and used their efficient codec it sounds alot like AMBE at a high bitrate.
Every now and then the program "This is Audible" on Sonic Theater plays an Audible book that was recorded for broadcast from the Audible "efficient" codec version. While its not totally the same as the AMBE codec it uses the same principles as that codec. It sounds really, really good.

Check the samples at http://www.dvsinc.com/products/software.htm

Okay, so adopt wasn't the correct word. But the point remains the same. They certainly didn't start from total scratch as SIRIUS did because they at least had a baseline to work from.

Smile Still Flying High Like A Multi Color Balloon

and I don't want to come down ( I use "multi color" because of all the wounderful songs being played as if you all didn't know why ).

Once again "So Very Cool" ......

But there is a part of me that goes out to the fans waiting for their "Super Shuffel to be returned to them.

The other day I had to call Sirius for some info and ofcause I just had to let him know how happy the fan's of the Bridge are to have it back.

He said that it was also one of his favorite but in reality if he had to pick just one it would be the Super Shuffle.

The fans of the Bridge know better then anyone what that feels like. The only advice I could give him was ofcause "not to give up" I sure hope that he took it.

"Good Luck" to the really nice guy at Sirius with his Super Schuffle !!

I just wish that they can get it right and eliminate the "One Artist" station.

Just one more thing ( really ) I have emailed them for certain requests and like the next day I received what I requested.

Right now and I hope forever I'm just "Loving Sirius"

Thank You Sirius...................
