When you make an announcment on a stream such as OutQ its out there in the public PERIOD! There is no defense or no excuse for the poor handling of this regardless. But it is par for the course with how SIRIUS handles stuff. Somethings never change. For the life of me, I don't understand why you find it necessary to make excuses and defend this crap.
Yes but did the announcement idea come from marketing top down, or did John McMullen just make a maverick decision? I'm not trying to defend it as much as I'm trying to explain what "might" have happened.

Having worked in corporations for so long, I know how things can be disorganized and mistakes made. Since they let the genie out of the bottle in a half baked way it smells more like a mistake of good intentions to me. It puts the company in a bad situation from a PR standpoint, especially if they selectively start turning people away, so they just continue to honor it even though in public they say they won't.

I just consider myself lucky that I got in on the deal.

I don't fully understand this. I can order a PNP for free witha home kit, but can i pay monthly for the subscription? I understand i can't get it as a second family subscription, but can i pay the additional 12.95 monthly? Or does it have to be a 6 month or a 1 year fee?

It's a 1 year commitment, and must be paid in two installments. The first installment is for 77.50 regardless of whether it's your first or 2nd sub. The 2nd installment is for 77.50 if it's a 1st sub, and 41.70 if it's a 2-4th sub.

Of course you can sign up for longer plans, and pay more up front if you want.

Sorry to hear, I know the feeling of being College poor. But your priorities are right, school definitely comes first.

I apologize for seeming curt, but I don't agree with "moderators" altering anyone's posts to suit their specific liking. I was merely calling that practice into question.

As far as this deal being truly for friends and family only, I recall a similar debate took place last year when XM began a Friends and Family promotion of the skyfi. There was much contention from both sides of the argument.

I think the bottom line ended up being XM honored the friends and family deal for as long as they wanted to honor it. And when they decided they didn't want to honor it (whether it was because it was no longer in their best interest to do so, or because they ran out of product, or because it truly originally was only for friends and family, or just because the 'deal' ended up on ebay).

I trust Sirius would do the same.

Although Ive learned not to trust sirius with much...but i'd hope they would be smart enough as a company to be able to control their own mysterious promotion.

You curt? Get on outta here! ROTFLOL

Actually I agree its seems the left hand knows not with the right hand is doing in regards to this supposed promotion. Post should not be edited for content either. Moderators may simple say the deal is over, but don't edit someone else's message, unless the content is just way out in the nature of a personal attack or something. Then again no where does it guarantee that our post won't be edited, so I guess if you want to post here there is that possibility, though I think this was a rare exception.

I know Buggy did it to be helpful and not just for the sake of hiding or covering up something someone said.

We don't have a policy for editing posts, in fact I feel that we are very liberal when it comes to allowable content. I can't speak for the other mods, but I'm sure they reflect my views.

Sirius requested that we alert everyone that the deal was closed, clearly they have not followed through on their end. By all means, until they cut it off then please take part in the free hardware.

G35Guy's post has been restored as a result of this.

I think that Sirius was trying to slow down the flow of calls. Nothing makes a better bandaid than telling people the deal is over.

I called early this morning expecting to be turned down for the deal, but I wasn't. I placed my order for the AudioVox unit, as it seems to have better features than the Kenwood unit. Anyways they told me I should have it within two weeks.

I have been contemplating Satellite Radio for a long time, but couldn't justify spending the money for the equipment, so this promotion was a wallet saver and hopefully a life saver for my commut to school and work. Being in the car for over two hours a day is bad and even worse with the horrible Cleveland area radio stations. The same old CD's can get boring.

I did the same thing this morning but got the Kenwood for two reasons.

1. I can live without the song notification and a Larger Display (i don't like how it is backlit either)

2. I get it now

I allready have a subscription but i am going to switch it over to the H2A so I can listen in my dorm room and in my car. And by the way either is a good choice being free.

I ordered my free AudioVox last week, and this morning I received a phone call from Sirius letting me know that they are backordered but I should receive it by the end of next week. I really didn't expect them to follow up but I think that's good customer service.

She was calling from the 480 area code. Where would that be located?

480 is in Arizona. Too bad you don't have a prefix to go with it!

That would be in Phoenix, and more interestingly, is a PCS number, as in personal communications service a la Sprint, etc.
