Default Free hardware with purchase of subscription

Heard this on OutQ last nite...fantastic deal for completely free hardware (your choice) with a paid subscription. Details below (as provided by John McMullen):

This afternoon, I mentioned on my show that there is now an opportunity to get a free SIRIUS Satellite Radio portable receiver. These are the new units that will work in a home/office or automobile. I'm sending this out to friends and family because, it's the SIRIUS friends and family accommodations program. I'd like to offer you the opportunity to take advantage of this great deal.

Here's how it works....

To be eligible, you have to be a family member... or friend of an employee. And, anyone who listens to my show is DEFINITELY a friend!! Orders for the radios are limited to one system and one activation per participant. Orders must be placed no later than September 30, 2003, and the radio must be activated by October 31st at the very latest. Your acceptance of the hardware authorizes SIRIUS to activate and bill the credit card you use for $77.70 for the first 6 months of service. A one-year programming commitment is required at the time of activation. The second payment of $77.70 for the year's service is due approximately six months later. We will ship the system to the specified shipping address within 72 hours as long as hardware is in stock. You get FREE activation (normally $15). If you choose to deactivate service within the first year, a $30 charge will be billed for the cancellation fee to your credit card.

Now, keep in mind that this program has limited quantities of our new portable radios so if you want to take advantage of this free hardware/free activation offer, you will want to act quickly.

There are two systems to choose from:

1. Kenwood Here2Anywhere System: KTC-H2A1
KPA-H2C (car kit docking station)
KPA-HTH (home kit docking station)

or

2. Audiovox SRS: Satellite Radio Shuttle
SIR-CK1 (car kit with built-in FM transmitter)
SIR-HK1 (home kit)

Here's how you order...

Call 800-466-9742 between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Eastern Time, between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Pacific Time, Monday through Saturday, no later than September 30, 2003.

Alert the SIRIUS representative that you are calling in for the Employee Friends & Family Program.

Provide the SIRIUS rep with the following:
Your Name
Your Home Address
Your Phone Number
Your Credit Card Information
Your Hardware Selection (I personally recommend the Audiovox system, but both are cool... Audiovox is best if you plan to get the car kit because it has a built in FM modulator that will allow you to transmit to your existing car stereo)
Give the representative my name, John McMullen, as your employee referral.

Once your system arrives (usually within a week), you will need to install it. It's VERY EASY. However, if you find it confusing, you can take it to a installation service at any of our major retailers. They will charge for this service. But, again, the portable units are easy to install because they don't involve modifying your vehicles. After installing, turn on the radio and select channel 184, the Preview Channel, to confirm that it is working properly.

THEN... Call SIRIUS at 888-539-7474 to Activate the unit.

When you talk with the service representative, you will need to provide them with your contact information and your SIRIUS ID Number from your receiver which will be located on the outside of the system box (it can also be found on the display by pushing the correct buttons detailed in the instruction manual).

At this time, while activating, ask the SIRIUS representative to enter the Promo Code: SIRIUS VIP. This will credit the referral from SIRIUS OutQ, and the company will make a $5 contribution (our money, not yours!!) to GLAAD. With a one-year subscription, you're getting a free month of service (12 for the price of 11 months). If they say they cannot do this, just drop me an e-mail and we'll fix it after your activation is complete.

In fact, once you have activated - FREE!! - drop me a line and let me know that it's workin' and I'll send you a SIRIUS OutQ tee-shirt while supplies last.

Don't wait to get turned on!!

If you have any questions, please send me an e-mail at jmcmullen@siriusradio.com. It's never been easier or less-expensive to get SIRIUS about entertainment! 60 commercial free music channels and 40 great talk channels with limited advertising, including SIRIUS OutQ // 149.

Have a great Labor Day Weekend!

Best,

John McMullen

Thanks John and G35Guy!

I think an offer this good needs to get moved to the insiders forum immediately!

Yeah...it's a fantastic offer. I don't need it for my car (I have an OEM system from my car mfg.). I'm trying to think of a reason to take advantage of this! I think I would go with the audiovox (I think it looks nicer), but I'm not sure. I would love to use it at work, but, I'm nowhere near a window and I don't believe there is a repeater near me (work is about 25 miles from downtown cleveland, oh). I thought about buying for my ex as his house-warming gift. Arg, I guess I could order it and do whatever with it later. It's such a good deal.

Sweet deal! Does the Shuttle deal include both kits (car and home)? Anyone been able to talk to anyone there? The message says their regular hours are 11am - 8pm EST. Don't know if John was correcting for EDT or not. In any case I just get the recording...

Please post if you actually get in touch with someone at that number.

Argh!

I just bought my Shuttle on TUESDAY and heard the same thing on McMullen's show.

Oh well. I was going to add a 2nd receiver for my s/o's car, and it looks like this deal ($155.40 for 1st year) will be better than adding a 2nd unit ($83.40 for subscription + $198 for hardware = $281.40)

The only question is ... when 2nd year comes up for renewal, will they let me convert the unit over at the $6.95/month rate ... ?

PS: G35Guy - nice wheels. I almost bought one - but at the last minute looked at the Acura TSX and switched. It was a _really_ difficult decision between the two. Believe it or not, one of the big plusses for me was that teh G had a factory-option for Sirius - Honda/Acura are completely stuck on XM (ugh).

I can't get through either. It must be that they are closed because it's a holiday weekend (that's all I can think of).

Thanks for the props on the car. The TSX is a nice car, I'm sure you'll be happy with it.

Looks like people must have been leaving messages (I did not) as now all it says is mailbox full. Guess they must indeed be closed this weekend.

I thought about not posting it. But, my thinking was that the OutQ stream is available to both sub and non-subs on the web to listen and of course to current customers on the web and any other way they listen to sirius. And, John was offering the details to anyone who wanted them. But, if it is a problem, please do remove the post...I don't want to get this site or John in trouble.

I would think that it would be judging from what he wrote, "To be eligible, you have to be a family member... or friend of an employee. And, anyone who listens to my show is DEFINITELY a friend!!" And as you said that was available on the web or current subscribers (listening to OutQ). Plus from the past F&F deals it seems similarly open to the Sirius public family. I would think they want subscribers for their quarterly numbers and this way they ensure they have those subscribers for a year (at least).

Just got off the phone, ordered the Kenwood (Audiovox backordered), should be here in 3 days! The deal is just as described above. Bye-bye XM and the Sony PNP.
