Default What stops me from giving out my streaming password ??

So i just got Sirius, very cool and like the fact that I can listen to the streaming audio at work. What stops me from giving the username and password to listen to the streaming audio to like 10 people ? My girlfriend used my account and I used my account at work today at the same time, so it doesn't look like Sirius limits multiple accont logons.

I would assume that there will not be any other streaming over the internet since neither the NFL network, nor Maxim (both exclusive Sirius streams) have not been added.

Most of what is not streamed is content that is bought by Sirius from another source (NFL, NPR) and they say they can not re-broadcast it over the internet. I hope they don't do that with their exclusive Stern contract because there is no way I can get a SAT signal in my office.

I'm surprised that Sirius doesn't limit the internet log-in to just one stream per user, it's just asking for people to pirate their system. I would like to see them improve the internet stream and limit it to just one user. I think if you are paying for a second receiver, you ought to get an additional user's license.

Well, heres what i do... I have 4 Sirius accounts (2 of them are gifts to people, ones in the car and ones at home)

Sirius cust svc themselves told me that I only need one streaming password -- even tho i told them 2 of the radios were not used by me.. They said it was ok to give my niece & nephew (the gift recipients) my password..

So it all goes back to "conscience"

I would hope that people do the right thing, and only allow subscribers access to web streaming. But if doing the right thing isn't motivating enough, you can also look at your self-interest. If everyone shares their password, the streaming servers got overloaded, and we all suffer more drops, including the people who share.

Road (cool new Sig by the way), I know where you are going with that and can appreciate that, but the overloaded server logic doesnt work on a system with a lot of people...

The anti-logic for that is that "I'm just one person - what difference will I make on the server - and if everyone is gonna do it enough to make it slow down, then I'm gonna "get mine" while it still works" (i'm not saying its the right attitude, just what I've seen in my experience)

The bottom line is that its the honor system.. If you abuse it, then the company doesnt make as much as it should, and the future content will suffer... Plus you'll go to hell for stealing

I'm not sure why but I get a sense the Sirius folks are hoping we're all a little bit honest. I turned on my streaming via computer in my office today for the first time. It was toooo cool. Great sound and really nice running in the background even with a re-buffering or two now and then. I'm sure if they seomhow eventually fid out it's being abused we'll all hear that it's gone to a pay for services situation.

I have only given it to my girlfiend, and don't plan to share it with anyone else. I'm just suprised Sirius doesn't limit it to like 2 streams per account. I think that would make sense.

If all you do is go online and listen you can't take it in your car. Sharing your password might have a good side, it might convince that person to go out and buy Sirius so he/she can listen in their car (this has happened to me).

The NFL isn't available online because they offer their own streaming service for $9.95 a month. They're not going to let Sirius cash in if they can double dip...

That's true for the games, but not the NFL Radio // 124 content. SiriusRon reported in a chat once that not streaming 124 was (paraphrasing)"a mutual decision of Sirius and the NFL."
