See, sosirius has just made a perfect example of why this thread should be gone. It is VERY mis-informing.

Alt Nation is the only one being "censored" and now it is just a couple of songs.

Plus if your gripe is censorship then keep it on censorship. Throwing out all that other stuff like DJ's talking over the beginning and ending of songs, Howard Stern coming to Sirius. The real deal is that many of these folks aren't reading these threads completely through becuase they have gotten so big and so they are just repeating what everyone else is saying.

No, what is misinforming is what the CSR's are telling customers regarding this issue. Now, this thread should keep people informed of what is going on, and in every sense it has. There is no reason to close it as long as this is still an issue, and you yourself just admitted that yes, it is still an issue. Until we get straight answers from Sirius or they stop playing radio-edits on channels that previously were free from this then we need to keep pushing this issue.

I'm sorry that you as a mod might have a little extra work to do to wrangle everyone to this thread, but hey, that's your job. If you don't like doing your job, you can always step down. It is after all a completely volunteer position.

What about those that aren't members (guests) and they come across it. What will be their impression?

We do have a plan, this issue will not be completely removed from SBS.

I hate to say it but I think your right... it does need to be toned down a bit. If we are turning subs away because of the censorship wariness then this site is totally noneffective. The fact is that there was a threat of censorship with the 4 channels, we fought it and won for the most part... now why I am I the ONLY one to yell the sweet cry of VICTORY!

My solution= maybe put a small link on the front page with some info on the situation and deleting this thread completely. Your right SISO it is totally misleading now. I agree that we still need to have some discussion about it but a sticky that is outdated... no.

What victory? Alt Nation continues to play radio-edits. And for the record, the amount of radio-edits hasn't changed since Sirius started doing it. How can you claim victory when nothing has changed? Sure, they may not radio-edit the other stations that CSR's were reporting they were going to, so that's something, but it's still not a victory by any means.

I guess the reason I view it as one is because I can't stand ALT nation enough to listen to it, but Faction is what my radio is usually glued to which remains unchanged. So maybe it isn't a victory but it definitely is a start.

Expressing Jeff's stance, which I totally agree with!

Their message has clearly changed, and I don't think they will try to pass off the edited stations under the radar anymore.

It's obvious the programmers are changing their approach, and that the program is working. I think the role of this campaign going forward will be less activist group and more watchdog group (no pun intended).
I say we keep the message up and inform everyone of our progress and where we need to go to assure that our rights as listeners are not compromised.

I also say that all of us tone the rhetoric down a little, stop the letters, and remove the banners for now. It's clear our voice has been heard. We will still keep this thread, as Jeff expressed, but it will become more of a "watchdog" thread to let them know where we stand. It's clear to us that we've won a battle...

And to new subs and members, WE STILL LOVE SIRIUS. We just don't want it to fall into the hands of corporate America, and lose the aspects we've come to love over the years.

Thanks!

You can't exactly claim a victory when Faction was never censored in the first place. The fact of the matter is Alt Nation continues to remain censored. And for those of you that are saying it's only partially censored and that you hear the occasional "fuck" or "shit"...give me a break. Regardless of whether it plays the occasional song uncut...they continue to play radio-edits the majority of the time. And what about Hot Jamz?

Sorry, but I'm going to continue pestering them with letters, emails and phone calls until this situation is resolved or until I develop Carpel Tunnel Syndrome from typing too much. I'm not quitting and neither should anyone else.

I think we can certainly claim victory to some degree, maybe we haven't won the war, but the battle is ours. Those that don't think so, that is your opinion, we view it differently

We can't stop folks such as yourself from writing letters, making calls or sending emails as in individual effort. But clearly this is no longer SBS driven. We see our role changing to more of a watchdog effort than as activist, I am sure some of you disagree, but that is the decision that was made. I am pretty sure Sirius is well aware that we are watching this very closely now.

If everyone keeps the rhetoric to a minimum and keeps the information factual then as RoscoRyan said we will continue to allow it. We are not going to allow multiple threads on this topic so if any new ones get started they will be locked or deleted. Also bumping this topic just for the sake of doing so isn't going to be allowed. As long as this topic is active with good discussion then so be it.

To those potential new subscribers, I recommend that you sign up for the Sirius Free Online Subscription and check out Sirius for yourself. Don't base your decision on this one issue alone. We want you to subscribe and become part of the Sirius family so take a listen for yourself and then decide if Sirius is for you.

DAB, that disclaimer sounded a little too "Sirius forced me to say that" which if I were a potential subscriber, would have turned me off completely about Sirius.

Bottom Line - Most everyone here complaining loves (or loved) their Sirius channels. This whole "radio-edit" thing is a sore spot for a lot of us. We wouldn't be complaining so hard unless we really loved the channels in the first place. I think new subscribers can see that passion and don't need to be reminded to make up their own minds... (altho reminding them that they can hear a 3-day sample for free is a good idea)

FM has radio-edits, but we don't care. Why? because most of us haven't listened to FM since we turned on our Sirius tuners... The whole "sterile" FM environment is horrible to listen to and we just want to keep Sirius on the right track.

Now that Sirius is getting more popular and has more to lose, there is a natural trend to play it safe. But what got them that popularity is not playing it safe... (they have a few satellites in the air that could be hit by space junk at any given moment - Thats not exactly playing it safe - but so far it worked)..

Potential subscribers should see the tremendous love we have for Sirius and should thank every complainer personally for trying to make sure that Sirius remains the same quality service for years to come.. Sometimes it looks like it wants to stray back to FM territory, but we have to keep on top of them...

To those potential new subscribers, I recommend that you keep in mind that Sirius has previously had a modern-rock/alternative channel that was completely free of radio-edit material. We want you to be informed of Sirius' total disregard of their censorship_OFF claims and their change in programming of this genre without warning nor communication to it's customers. So take a listen for yourself and then decide is Sirius is for you.

I think mine sounds better as it clearly informs people of the real situation.
