It won't die. It will live on as long as Sirius continues to play radio-edits on the stated channel(s) in question.

It doesn't matter how many of us made the decision, all you need to know is that it was the majority as that is how we do things. The fact that you don't like it is duly noted, but your efforts to try to fragment the mods won't work either.

Right now all this bickering isn't helping your cause. We can argue about this decision until the cows come home, but eventually Jeff is going to get enough and lock the thread because the focus of what this is all about will be lost.

If it lives on with more than just you, me & Chad - then I'm all for it living on.. But if it dies without us 3, then maybe people just dont care enough... Legally, Sirius can do what it wants with censorship - and conversely, we as users can walk away if we dont like the programming.. We've beat the point to death, now we have to see if other people pick up on the mission...

Maybe a consolidation thread/webpage might be a good idea to get people to read the important stuff without getting bogged down with non-related posts... Im all for that too...

It takes two to tango brother. It takes two to tango.

I do sincerely hope that Jeff does lock this thread. That way we who truly care about the issue could create a new thread that consolidates all the information, which is we haven't won any battle, there is no victory, that the same thing is continuing to happen, and that Sirius hasn't responded in a satisfactory manner. As I understand it, that was the original intention of this thread to begin with, and why I continue to post.

At that point then I'd be willing to concede and give up on the issue entirely as well. I'll happily continue using my XM to augment the lack of appropriate content on Sirius, where they actually provide straight answers to their customers about which channels are and are not "cleaned up" by marking those with XL. That's all I'm really asking for in all this. Just be honest with your customers. If you are going to radio-edit, at least tell us, don't just spring it on us without warning (disclaimer or no disclaimer) We have a right to know what it is we are paying for so that we can make informed decisions on whether to continue paying for the product.

Just for the record - Hot Jamz is still playing radio-edits.

DAB, if you think this thread is starting to get off topic, too large, etc. I have a suggestion. Another site that I frequently visit will start another thread after the original one gets to be so many posts/pages. Why don't you just start a part 2 on this thread...close this one...and provide a link to the orginal. That way we can continue discussion in the new one without the clutter.

As someone who is currently in the middle when it comes to this matter, let me propose a solution for all involved.

We've made our statement loud and clear. Let's lie low for a little, and give SIRIUS a little time to respond. If we continue, the campaign will become overkill, and our message will become numb.

Let's be patient and see what comes about on Sept 29th, when the channel changes take place. Afterall, some changes and concessions may be in the works (like clearly stating which channels will be uncensored, etc...). We should even give the new programming a couple days to sink in to ensure we are giving a fair evaluation of the censorship on SIRIUS.

Then, we can as a community figure out where the campaign goes.

Does that sound fair to you all?

That's certainly reasonable and I'm all for it. The lineup change on the 29th would be the ideal time to make that response known and I'm willing to give them a pass to respond until that time.

Excellent points rosco.

Default Response from Sirius

Thank you for contacting SIRIUS. We appreciate the time that you have taken to write us regarding a few edited songs on SIRIUS.

Both Howard Stern and Sprint represent a large volume of listeners.
With so many channels to choose from, it is possible to make the listening experience enjoyable to all of our many and diverse subscribers. We strive to deliver an entertaining mix of both family-friendly and adult programming. To that end, we occasionally air versions of certain songs edited by the record company for family listening. This practice only affects select music channels and a relatively small number of songs in our vast library. The majority of our music channels remain completely unedited and we are committed to delivering the best music possible to every subscriber. We hope that it will not impact your SIRIUS listening experience in any way.

You can still hear unedited music on:

- Shade 45 // Channel 45

- Hip Hop Nation // Channel 41

Beginning in January of 2006, we will bring Howard Stern and his show to all of our listeners wherever they are - all at no additional cost.

Our emphasis is on the music and entertainment you want. Master music programmers and on-air personalities, who are true experts, host our music. They back up the music with compelling information about the song being played. We simply want to ensure that our listeners remember who they are listening to so they can come back to their favorite channels. We apologize for any frustration caused by the announcements and on-air host discussions.

We have forwarded your comments to our programming department. If you have any further questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact SIRIUS Customer Care. For your convenience, we are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at:

1-888-539-SIRIUS (7474)

Haven't posted in this thread in a while.. That being said, I've called the CSR's everyday for seven days in a row, and have sent Jay Clark at least a 1/2 dozen emails.

It surely looks like Sirius is changing their plans for the future, which is a SMALL victory of what we're trying to accomplish here.

BUT let it be known:

Alt Nation AND Hot Jamz are STILL playing CENSORED versions of the music.

I prefer the word CENSORED because its not a euphemism (like radio-edit) to make people feel as if they're not listening to CENSORED music.

Sirius needs to draw a line in the sand and tell us which stations play CENSORED music and which ones play as the artist intended. After they do that they must adhere to the policy and not allow CENSORED tunes on the uncensored channels.

Those of you who are advocating to stop writing letters and calling have obviously never been part of or run a grassroots campaign. If you lose exposure, you have become irrelevant.

an addendum to my previous post: I just went out to lunch and listened closely to see if the censorship was still in place. AD seemed as if he was very carefully minding his P's and Q's. But if that isn't enough, I heard the CENSORED version of NIN's Only.. Again..

What exactly have we won, again?

I'm sending this through the web site, but I doubt it'll do any good... It's very unfortunate and I was disheartened the first time I heard the censored music. I listen online quite a bit because I am on the road a lot (the reason I'm so anxious to get a portable player!!!). First I thought it was just an online thing, but when I went home and listened I was quite disappointed!

It was actually quite a breath of fresh air the first time I heard the music (uncensored) on Alt Nation! Now it's just like any crappy radio station...

-----

Hi There-

I have recently noticed that the music station I listen most (Alt Nation) is being censored. I must admit I am very concerned about this and feel that I am no longer getting the value that I paid for when I purchased my lifetime subscription.

I firmly believe that if the artists did not want their music to contain words that some people find offensive, they would not put these words in their songs. For anyone else to change or edit their songs is an afront to their artistic expression.

Can you please tell me if this is going to be an ongoing issue at Sirius, even as the service bills itself as 'uncensored' on the web site while promoting the move of Howard Stern to Sirius? Or will this experiment be changed after the company realizes that the kids it is hoping to insulate from the language in the songs (a) hear this language everyday outside of the radio and music; and (b) rarely (if ever) pay for the music service themselves and therefore catering to them is a wate of time?

Thanks for your time, and best regards-
Sirius lifetime subscriber (for the NBA and music, not Howard Stern...)

Leave a short and to the point message, and be polite. A long rant won't accomplish anything.
