Obviously you are not a student of history. The minute of agree to give up a liitle bit of your personal freedoms and rights you are doomed.
The supreme court has vigorously differentiated between over the air broad casts and pay for services.
How would you like it if tomorrow HBO or Cinemax were censored. No more shows like the sopranos or Comedians like Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, and Richard Pryor. Puts it in a different light huh

I do not choose to pay for something I can get for free. That is the whole premise behind Sirius. NO?

Nobody is giving up any rights here and your premise is flawed. This isn't the government imposing some restrictions on what Sirius can or cannot play. Listen to Shade 45 for an hour and let me know if it's bleeped. Sirius has some family friendly programming to go along with some very uncensored programming.

No need to overreact. HBO has family programming too. It's all about giving a large audience variety and choices that they want.

Uncensored music and content is ONE of the premises, but not the ONLY premise. I personally think having digital quality commercial free music with a large doese of talk and entertainment channels are some of the OTHER premises for paying for the content. After all when you subscribe to cable, you do get the cartoon channel to go along with the Supranos if you want.

You will never get Sirius or XM for that matter to uncensor every single channel because there are many people that actually prefer not to hear the F word while listening to pop misic with their children.

If you have a specific channel you want to be totally uncensored, please feel free to write Sirius and let them know. But if you think that all channels should be uncensored, then you are not being realistic.

This thread was started when there was some word that Sprint was requesting Sirius censor some of the channels that would be carried on the cell phone service. At this point, it appears that this never materialized like was feared. There may be some songs censored here and there (radio edits), but that sometimes is a mistake. So let them know, and excercise your democratic free speech voice

First off I wasn't referring to just the government, I was just using them as an example.

Secondly, the whole point of the argument is not about the availability of "Family or clean programming" I'm all for that.
What the argument is, which I don't see why you haven't got it yet, is that channels that were once not censored are now censored.
You made my point for me with the whole HBO argument. They did not censor their current content; they constructed NEW family friendly platforms.

If Sirius feels the need to placate censors make new channels for them, don't bow at the expense of existing ones.

I wonder if we couldn't get a list of what channels are censored and which aren't. I had friends over the other day proudly showing off my new Sirius system listening to heart and soul and got some radio edited song by the Isley Brothers. It seemed pretty much an adult station and odd that it would be censored. Hopefully this was just one of the 'accidents.' It certainly diminished their enthusiasm about Sirius.

I despise the fact that this whole censorship thing has been done in a very sneaky way. Like people would not notice that all of the sudden the uncensored service they are paying for is all of the sudden censored?

It is insulting and everyone here should be upset at Sirius JUST FOR DOING THAT. Screw the semantics of all the "reasons" and justifications of why they did it. All the early supporters that been passing word of mouth have been slapped in the face now that you got your target subscribers and want to appeal to a wider audience through censorship.

I feel betrayed by Sirius for selling out on us.

It's absolutely blasphemous to censor Nine Inch Nails and any alternative music. Or rap or anything else!! What a joke. I certainly won't be surprised to see Sirius start to plateau in new subs at the very least. And the cancellations will happen more frequently. And if XM starts doing it too satellite radio's going to die. Nobody wants to pay for censored versions of songs that were not meant to be listen that way. They are censoring the number one thing most people get satellite radio for. MUSIC. No way I'm renewing my sub again. What the hell are they trying to become Disney Satellite Service?

Grace, you don't even have a sub to know what they are censoring. They are censoring a few songs out of their library on 2 channels (although they do play edits on others, but they always have).

If you are censoring Alt Nation and Faction there is a lot of editing going on. I listened to a lot of Alt Nation when I had my sub. It's just wrong. If people listen to the artists on Alt Nation it's pretty safe to assume they can handle bad words and already know the artists are saying them. No surprises should occur. It's silly. It's Sirius turning into fm radio. Which we get for free.

The point is it would help if you had specifics but since you can't hear it for yourself, it's difficult for you to have perspective. You are currently operating on imagination and speculation.

Edits are censored versions of songs. You know why they're edited? So they can play them on mainstream radio without the FCC getting on them. So actually Sirius is censoring 2 channels and censoring other channels too but not totally censoring them just occasionally. But they always have. Why play radio edits on uncensored channels?

Surely you jest. You want to talk about perspective? Remember all those old black Sirius shirts with the "Sirius on, censorship off" logo? Well, censorship is now on. THAT'S perspective.

They are censoring a song from Nine Inch Nails that says fuck repeatedly in the chorus. That's about at least 10 blips. Why play the damn song if you are going to Mickey Mouse Club it? Do you actually think any Nine Inch Nails fan hasn't heard Trent use the f word before and that we appreciate someone "cleaning up" his music so we can be babysat? That's just one of the specifics.

A little clip after a censored song on Alt Nation about 2 minutes ago:
Uncensored radio, for an uncensored lifestyle....Alt Nation 21.

What the hell is wrong with Sirius?
Talk about being hypocritical.

Sounds more like damage control... They screwed up, they got called out, they are trying to make things look right...
