This is the 2nd post that has said that CS told them they wren't getting to many calls, yet when this first started they were getting bomboarded. Either the complaints have slowed or they've been told to make it sound like a small deal.

I would also agree with this statement. I know someone who works at a big company who answers the phones as a CSR and they are told to play things down all the time.

I sent off my letter to Jay Clark today.

That's awesome Musicphile! If you wouldn't mind, I'd be interested to hear how the call goes if you wouldn't mind posting a recap.

My only question is what can we do to get some kind of dialogue going. I'm concerned that if we allow this precedent to stand that Sirius will be headed toward sponsorships rather than serving their subscribers.

Good luck with the call!

When I called CS I was told that they are getting alot of subscribers saying they are against it- And he did not down play it all- He actually said "I agree, it is a stupid move, if it goes through"- I guess it depends who you get on the phone and what calls they get.

Not that I'm happy at all about the censorship issue, but I'm really happy to have gotten a call from Mr Clark... I'm not anyone important, just a subscriber, so it made me feel a little better to think that Sirius took the time to have the VP of Programming call me... I will tell him about this site (he probably already knows though), and tell him that this is a great place for him to discover what's in the subscribers mind (although we are just a small group compared to the total sub base)... I am very anxious to hear what they are thinking with taking money from a company and changing what they are... I hope they have not lost focus on us... but really Mel is a sales guy, and he's going to drive up revenue... I'm sure they've done simple math to say that even if they lost X amount of subs, they would still come out ahead in the end... which is just what we don't want them to do... I will certainly keep all of you in the loop.

I totally agree. I'm a Sirius kind of guy and I love the company and I want them to succeed and be around for a very long time. Sometimes we just have to step up and remind them that WE are the driving forece behind them. The same thing happened with Dish Network and when they became big, profitable, they started to lose sight of those of us who built the foundation for them back in the 90's.

Contact SIRIUS corporate directly with this issue. Talking to the people in the call center won't get you anywhere. Written letters to the company, as well as e-mails directly to Jay Clark is your best bet for getting this issue handled. With all of the other calls that need to be made to the call center, contacting them trying to get someone from the main office to be there and hop on the phone with you is like a crap shoot, with the worst odds in the world. Only once have I heard of someone from the corporate office being on the phone in the call center, but that's a rumor that I heard about Michael Moore taking a rep's phone away to get back at one of those customers who think that they are the center of the universe.

So write your letters. Write your e-mails. Call the corporate office. But let the call center reps deal with bringing those people who still find what they want in the service the best music selection on the planet.

I had a call with Jay Clark and Steve (Blatter I think)… they were very concerned about the impression that we were getting regarding the change. A couple of the things that they said were that no one is getting rich off of this deal with Sprint. They are excited about the exposure that it gives Sirius. They also pointed out that they get a lot of calls from people that wanted a rock station that played mainstream Alt music without the language, and Alt. Nation was it. They feel that this is being blown out of proportion a bit, and are very much aware of siriusbackstage.com. They made it very clear to me that they are not changing their position on censorship and do not ever plan to cave to corporate dollars. They stated that the only channel that really had any change was Alt. Nation, although I think that Faction and Hot Jamz probably has also. They have received your letters / e-mails, and have not responded yet because they want to make sure that the response they give is proper, again they seemed really worried about people getting the wrong impression.

I only became aware of this via this web site, so I don’t know how long this has been going on, it’s my impression that they are truly worried about our perception, however it does seem like the change came about with the Sprint deal. I told them that it was our thought that a large corporation came in waving money at them and they started changing who they are. They disagreed and said that their commitment is to us, the subs.

We all knew that they were not going to change back because we jumped up and down, and I don’t have a problem believing that people want a “new rock” station that is censored. All in all I’m happy to see that they cared enough to take time out to call me and explain their side of the story. The call was about 10 – 15 minutes and they had other meetings to get to, but if anyone has a question about it that you don’t think I’ve explained please ask, I’d be happy to elaborate on it.

Well they may not be caving in to "corporate dollars", but they sure are caving in to the soccer mom types and uptight individuals complaining who shouldn't even have satellite radio in the first place.

Do they even realize that Alt Nation is our ONLY alternative rock channel? Where do they expect us to hear it uncensored?

Thanx for the update musicphile!

I'm really impressed that they were concerned enough to have a call with you... So they get a lot of points for doing that... However being representatives of the company, they arent gonna give you an unbiased view of the situation... So you gotta figure out what they are saying between the lines..

Very important... its not a small issue like the cs reps make it out to be

We seem to be making a difference... We might not be able to save Alt Nation, but they may not go any further than that... They might be telling us what we want to hear and do whatever they're going to do anyway...

This one concerns me... They are obviously censoring something due to "something" be it corporate pressure or political correctness, but the fact that they deny something that they are actually doing is very disconcerting...

Musicphile thanks for posting your communication and it's a step in the right direction that they called you to address this issue
Here are some questions I have for you (If you can answer them

I am glad that they are concerned with there subscribers acceptance towards this (And rightfully so) but here goes:

-So without the Sprint deal this was what they were planning to do?

---Well than why are they picking Alt Nation?, why not the bridge, spectrum?-
---No mention of the other 3? (1st Wave, Hot Jamz, Faction)

--How do they plan on telling the subscribers? when? If there worried about people getting the wrong impression than they should make it clear exactly what there intentions are to the subscribers.
