I sent a e-mail.. and I am glade Sprint will not want Hard attack. but still.. I dont like XM but will jump ship in a heart beat to keep my tunes uncensored!!

here is my lil e-mail... short but to the point.

Hi I am writing this to you due to the fact that I not only LOVE Sirius and am MORE than Happy to give you my 13 a month.. but I must say.. if this censorship does not stop.. You will lose one person and 13 a month.. If that is your goal then you should take pride in how well you are messing up a great thing.. Be proud.

I listen a lot to Hot Jamz and have noticed the difference periodically. There is basically no uncensored tunes any more.

I'll be writting an email when I get home. I will also send a hardcopy letter.

This crap is ridiculous and VERY disappointing.

I too purchased Sirius for the lack of censorship and freedom(purchase price) of speech. What are my dollars getting me now? Another crappy duplicate of Clear Channel and Infinity Broadcasting, that's what.
By no means am I willing to tolerate paying for Christian-Proof Radio.
Will be emailing, snail-mailing and calling everyone I can From Sirius. Immediately.

my snail-mail letter...

Quote:
Mr. Jay Clark
Executive Vice President, Programming

Mr. Clark:

It has recently come to my attention that there is a possible partnership in the works concerning Sprint Wireless. With this partnership, it is my understanding that Sprint is requiring SIRIUS Satellite Radio to censor several of its streams as a condition of this deal.

While I don’t require of explicit lyrics in my music, I did buy into SIRIUS largely because of the philosophy of stepping above the rest to play music as it was intended, unedited straight from the artists’ mouth. I’ve been a loyal subscriber since 2002, I suddenly feel as if I’m not being cared about and expendable in the wake of this situation. I’ve spoken to other SIRIUS subscribers about the issue, and to put it lightly, it wasn’t taken very well by others either. As loyal subscribers, we are the brick and mortar that has made SIRIUS so successful since it’s introduction. Now Sprint comes in and wants to manipulate what SIRIUS is all about, just so their cell phone service can play “safe” music? For some reason, I find that utterly insulting to even consider. We’ve stuck by your side for years, and just because one company comes in and proposes this ridiculous idea, the millions of subscribers loyal to SIRIUS over the past few years, are suddenly getting the raw end of the deal so a “toy” can be added to Sprint’s cell phone service.

It really is a disgusting proposition and I hope it can be reconsidered. I’m all for SIRIUS marketing trying to tie in and spread the word of SIRIUS through any means possible, but it is simply unacceptable to deny the promise made to SIRIUS’ loyal and dedicated subscriber base to conform to Sprint’s ridiculous demand.

I’m in disbelief that this is being considered. If the deal stands with Sprint I may possibly cut my SIRIUS service, not because of the actual terms of the deal, but rather over the principle of paying subscribers getting neglected. I hope in the end, loyal subscribers are the primary concern in the decision.

Sincerely,

Joel Freeman

I dont know if this was just a weekend or song anomaly, but in listening to Alt Nation this weekend, I heard a few "shits" and "assholes" in the songs...

Anyone else notice this?

Yeah. It's weird hearing them alternate between censored and uncensored versions. And last night I even heard a shit on 1st Wave. Could it be they're actually listening to our complaints?!

I am still hearing no censorship on Faction either. I am not sure when the actual final say is as far as censorshit but it would be nice to find out a real date that they are planning this.

It could be that they're just editing certain curse words, like the F word and MFer, for example.

Has anybody heard those two words lately, on the four channels in question?

Maybe it could be that it was a few songs that they put the radio edit version in the rotation and that these channels really aren't going to be as censored as it was initally thought.

I don't support censoring channels, but hearing a few bleeps don't wreak my world and so I have always felt this issue was totally overblown, but that is my opinon.

It is possible that the out cry on this forum and letters to Sirius has impacted their decision to follow through with this plan.

Ditto here. What does upset me is that they'd basically be pissing on the promise to subscribers to please Sprint.

Default My Letter

Let me get this right? You are now going to censor alt_nation after you campaigned in the beginning for uncensored, unfettered radio. I don’t like it but you’re going to do it anyway. I pay a premium for my music service and you’re going to censor it anyway. Fine whatever. But if that is the path you are going to take, then you are going to have to severely mellow your DJ’s out. Its just stupid to censor the music, but I still have to listen to AD talk about “Bubba” Clinton (I’m from Arkansas by the way) “tapping fat chubby intern ass” and calling the current President a “Simian Idiot.” Then there’s Madison, where I get to listen to her advocate illegal drug use that she likes to partake in (in an interview with 311) and her sexual adventures… on a DAILY basis.

Personally, I believe it silly to censor the music. I believed your lack of censorship showed your dedication to the music and was one of the reasons I have been a Sirius subscriber since the very first day it came online in my part of the country. I sincerely hope you reconsider your decision, but I feel that if you are going o censor your music you need to censor your DJ’s as well, you can’t have it both ways.

Like I mentioned, in the beginning, Sirius promised its listeners uncensored music. Am I to believe that Sirius is the kind of company that doesn’t keep its promises to its customers? I’m afraid that is has become a sad reality.

P.S. Here is a link to how many people feel about your recent censorship.

Just as I and others thought... I have always said it was overblown. I say this Censorship Campaign is DEAD and we need to pull the plug on it. New subscribers come in here and read this stuff and its very misleading. We are going to leave this up for another day or so but if all the other mods say the same, we are more than likely going to pull the plug.

Thanks. No disrespect to Damian (aka littleradioboy), but that just sounds like the same old generic response the SIRIUS CSRs have been telling us for awhile now. To say all of this is a "big over reaction" is complete bullshit. It just so happens that Alt Nation is our ONLY alternative rock channel...where are we supposed to go to hear our music the way it was meant to be heard?

Last time I checked most cell phones have similar features...such as being able to lock your phone through password protection. Why not let people decide for themselves?
