Just because we pull the plug on this program does not mean you have to give up the fight yourself.

I do now think that it is being blown out of proportion, those stations are obviously relatively uncensored. Some songs are edited yes, but like DAB said this is very mis-leading to potential subscribers.

This issue is easily solved. Either mark the channel, or stop playing the radio-edits. End of story. Until then I don't think this issue is over, not by a longshot.

I do know that Sirius did get a flood of letters and emails on this topic. Phone calls were also up on this issue. I think that Sirius cares what we think, and we must keep telling them what we want and think, but in a way that is not bitching. I think we need to question issues without sounding pissed off. I think that Sirius is testing the waters to see how people react. I have noticed more F**ks on Sirius, over the past few days, Talk Central was filled today with them.. I think the feedback from our push did send a message to Sirius, and we need to keep an eye on them.. and express our views without going overboard.. but Sirius should also give out info, and talk better to us..

Just the mere fact that you guys would even consider pulling this when we need it the most is downright insulting to everyone involved. How is this “misleading” to potential subscribers? Trying to bury this instead of telling them the TRUTH about what’s actually going on…now that is misleading. It’s only fair to let them know about both the positives and the negatives about SIRIUS so they can make an informed decision before subscribing.

Obviously Jeff has much more important things to attend to after the horrible ordeal he’s been through, but I seriously doubt he would appreciate the campaign that he started to suddenly be pulled because a couple of you think it’s overblown. If you’ll just take a look around, I'm sure you’ll see the majority of this community is not at all pleased about the current situation.

I honestly believe we can make a real impact if we continue to keep on doing what we’re doing. This issue is NOT over, and pulling this now would only show them we're giving in just like they gave in to Sprint.

Yes, and if what Damian is reporting is true then Sirius will let potential subs know that the channel plays some edited music.

Again, only if they CLEARLY delineate each channel doing so. And if we find radio-edits continuing to be played on channels not designated as such then we again will be back where we started.

Instead of pulling the plug on the campaign why not consider it a win? That is how I consider it...
From the start of this whole thing I was under the impression that Faction was going to be 100% censored. Then I started hearing some radio edits on that station so I called and wrote to complain. I got the same canned response that we all did, saying that they took note of the letter/call. I have been waiting it out over the past few weeks to see how it played out, now the sprint deal is available and I am listening to Faction as I type and am hearing lots of uncensored great music played by Ellis.

I can't speak much for Alt Nation but I know that I am happy with the results with Faction

I guess it is time to start looking for a new sig

Thanks to all who helped win the fight , you deserve a pat on the back!

Thanks. No disrespect to Damian (aka littleradioboy), but that just sounds like the same old generic response the SIRIUS CSRs have been telling us for awhile now. To say all of this is a "big over reaction" is complete bullshit. It just so happens that Alt Nation is our ONLY alternative rock channel...where are we supposed to go to hear our music the way it was meant to be heard?

Last time I checked most cell phones have similar features...such as being able to lock your phone through password protection. Why not let people decide for themselves?
Hey Chad, this was not from CSR.. trust me! This person contacted me, and wanted to "clear up this mess" ....
You are right people need to decide for themselves, but I think the thing we must understand, some people are not sure of how to make the non-PG content locked out. I think Sirius wants to get a list of "clean" channels so they can insure parents that yes! (for example) Sirius Hits One is clean, but Faction is not. A good parent should request a list of these non-PG stations so they can decide for themselves.. Sirius also wants to make sure people know they can lock out stations and also how to do it..

I think Sirius needs to quickly get out a list of stations that will be clean, and stick to it..

But once more we must make sure that they know we are watching..

I think this has been a very good campaign which drove the point home to SIRIUS and it has made a great difference. However, all of these things eventually come to an end, sort of fade away or at least loose their emphasis

The mods are in discussion and one of us will let you all know what has been decided. Chad, just so you'll know Jeff didn't start this without discussing it with us for our feedback and it was as group we made the decision to go forward with this. It will again be a group decision as to what is decided and rest assured Jeff will be okay with it. If he didn't trust us we wouldn't be mods on this forum. It isn't about just what one or two of us mods think that make changes, we do this as a group, so lets clear that up right now.

Also, if you wish to take it as an insult then that is on you. It is strange you keep saying that people are still not satisfied with this situation, yet people keep reporting that they are hearing a lot of uncensored content. So that in and of itself seem to verify this has been overblown based on a small amount of content that was edited. Another thing no one is going to take this thread and hide it away so that no one can see it, so you are being overly dramatic. This forum very much so allows folks to give their views negative or positive and to my knowledge they have never been hidden. I stand by my claim based on at least two post as I recall potential subscribers not doing so because when they read all this they came away with the feeling that SIRIUS was just not worth getting. You are okay with turning potential subscribers away perhaps to go to XM all for your cause? I am not and I think once you've had success you stay vigilant, but you back it down and that is where we are heading with this.

There are a few options we are talking about which may or may not pull the plug totally. We'll let you all know.

I'll tell you DAB, you guys pull the plug and I WILL start this right back up again, and I'm sure Chad and others will join along. Until we have a satisfactory answer from Sirius (and no, some unnamed insider on some blog doesn't count as satisfactory) then this campaign should continue regardless of what the mods think. I am quite frankly tired of Sirius dragging their feet on this. It always comes back to "Calm down, you are blowing it out of proportion, this isn't a problem". This is pathetic. Politicians address the questions presented to them better than Sirius has responded so far.

Despite what anyone at SIRIUS says, our claims are grounded in fact. Understand that their most recent anonymous comments are a marked departure from what they had planned to do as a result of the Sprint deal.

Clearly someone is doing damage control and that can be credited to our collective voice as well as the increased awareness of the promises SIRIUS made in the past.

Going forward, we must continue to keep this effort in the public eye, this is just the beginning of the cultural change that must take place to assure that the SIRIUS service remains uninfluenced by executive agendas and outside partners. Should the programming direction change, our job as a watchdog group is to document this, inform others and react appropriately.

Thanks for your positive involvement in this issue and I look forward to a better SIRIUS music experience as a result of our efforts.

Jeff

I'm torn..

On one hand, having this anonymous person tell us Sirius's plan is kind of distressing... If it's Sirius's plan, why dont they just publicly announce it?

On the other hand, if this is indeed their plan, then its probably the best we could have hoped to get... We fought back and they are retreating and wont be so quick to pull this stunt again..

Then again, I really hate when companies condescendingly tell us that we over-reacted. Radio-Edit still means censored music, no matter what spin you put on it. It is not how the artist originally intended his music to be heard. Period.

If you want a family-friendly stream, thats fine (i cant see them playing songs by NIN or Trick Daddy anyway) - but dont mess with the most popular channels that became that way NOT being family friendly.

Its not that I really need to have cussing in my songs, its about a great company giving in to corporate demands - especially when they made a big deal that they would never do it..

Don't become FM-like - Sirius & XM are hugely popular because they weren't FM - And it looked like Sirius is trying to go back to the formats on FM that "worked" (when it was the only option)... I love Sirius Radio, but I will walk away as quickly as I jumped on board - there are plenty of alternatives out there..
