Default Improve Sirius sound quality!

While niether XM or Sirius is delivering sound quality quite as good as regular FM, the content of either does make it worth the it all; but XM sounds better--less noticeable digital artifacts (superior codec?).

I now have Sirius ONLY because of Howard Stern coming soon.

Wouldn't you like true MP3 128K quality on your music stations?
Can we all not complain endlessly until Sirius reduces the number of stations available in order to increase bandwidth, and therefore sound quality, for the most popular commercial free music stations?

A closing prayer: "May the XM executive who lost the Howard Stern deal to Sirius die slowly of ass cancer, after learning of his wife cheating with his worst enemy. Thank you God, Amen."

to SBS and the

What kind of a setup do you have for Sirius? How about XM?

I have both, and I think that Sirius sounds better. In fact the other day I had a co worker with me that wanted to check out XM so I let him listen to my Skyfi2 and after a little bit, he wanted Sirius back on because he thought it sounded better.

Default SIRIUS SOUND QUALITY REPLY

I CURRENTLY HAVE SPORTSTER REPLAY WITH FM MODULATOR CAR KIT AND BOOMBOX; MOST TIMES LISTEN AT HOME AT NIGHT THRU SONY STUDIO PRO HEADPHONES THRU BOOMBOX, LESS OFTEN THRU FM MOD IN CAR.

XM I USUALLY LISTENED THRU SAME HEADPHONES THRU TIVOLI TABLE RADIO VIA 1ST GEN DELPHI INTO AUX INPUT, LESS OFTEN THRU FM MODULATOR KIT IN CAR.

WETHER YOU THINK XM OR SIRIUS SOUNDS BETTER--I'LL ADMIT IT IS CLOSE, BOTH COULD RIVAL, OR EVEN BETTER REGULAR FM STATIONS
MUSIC QUALITY IF THEY REDUCED THE NUMBER OF MUSIC STATIONS AND USED THE EXTRA BANDWIDTH TO INCREASE THE QUALITY OF THE MOST POPULAR MUSIC STATIONS.

COME ON, TELL 'EM BOTH, SIRIUS AND XM--

FEWER STATIONS, HIGHER QUALITY!
FEWER STATIONS, HIGHER QUALITY!

I don't know if my ears just aren't very picky or what. I think it sounds great on my car stereo and at home too. I don't think we could expect it to sound like the musicians are in the same room with us.

I'd hate to see them reduce the number of stations. The more the merrier. If I need perfection I'll go to Symphony Hall.

Teata, please don't type in all caps.

Using the FM modulator will make it sound like, guess what? FM!

Default My sensitive ears

I apologize for typing in all CAPS, but am interested in other satellite radio subscribers opinions concerning sound quality versus channel availability; after all, the FCC allows only so much bandwidth to Sirius and XM.

Some peoples ears, certainly mine, and I suspect others, are disturbed by low bandwidth digital broadcast and / or recordings.

I suggest that I, and possibly others, would be more pleased with higher quality Sirius broadcast channels at the expense of fewer channel choices, and that Sirius should be interested in their listeners opinions on their sound quality.

If my opinion is in the minority, then by all means disreguard, and stuff as many channels as you can into the available bandwidth.

I'll still subscribe so I can listen to Howard Stern, since there is absoulutely nothingof interest to me on TV.

This is a topic that comes up from time to time, but it's very few people that take issue with teh quality. You are in a VERY small minority for either service.

Sound quality is only as good as your connection. If you are using FM modulation don't be suprised if it sounds like shit. Direct connection is always better.

As to which service sounds better, I have both in the same vehicle direct connected to my HU, amplified properly with after market Bostons and a small 8 inch jl sub also amplified.

Both services sound good. I personally think XM sounds a bit better overall although you need to ratchet up the volume more on XM than sirius. I also think that the sound difference is very small except on talk which XM sounds much better IMO.

Sound quality issues are really not something to consider they both sound great if you have them hooked up correctly. Music preference is a much bigger concern as I've noticed both companies play lists starting to differ a bit more. Especially on the channels I frequest (decades, mix, blend, pulse 80's).

Sirius SQ is better than XM. It may vary on what channels you listen to on each service. Alot of times, certain songs on XM sound muffled. and yes, Sirius sounds better than FM to me. XM doesnt.

I personally kind of go back and foruth between these services in terms of which one sounds better and as LASIRIUSFAN said it depends on the channel you are on too. But it also matters if you are doing a direct connect vs an fm tran connect. Over, I think I like Sirius SQ better, but there are days I think I like XM better. The good news is I am happy with both in terms of SQ.

I only have Sirius, so I wont' go into the comparisons. I will only say that installing a SWB will improve the quality(Just did it last night, was real easy, even for a total n00b), but it STILL won't rival CD quality, and depending on your sound system, and your area, may not even rival FM...I mentioned this before, but even in a forum like this that seems to strive on quality, more people would prefer more channels...I'm all for less channels, and MUCH higher quality, to rise above the competition.
With two providers, I feel it would be much better if one provided higher quality for the audiophiles, and those who just appreciate better sound, and another for those who don't have the ear, or are more complacent in their listening habits...

I find the SQ is good enough and at least as good as regular FM which was good enough all these years. Also i find sirius better then XM in that the sound is not over "bassy" and muddy . On XM i had to cut back on the bass and constanly adjust the volume with each channel change.

I disagree with the statement that "FM sounds better than Sirius or XM". I think both Sirius and XM sound much clearer and wider and better than FM. I have both and prefer the sound of Sirius over XM, but have no problems with either. My only gripe with XM is the wide range in sound levels. Sirius tends to be more like FM, in that they process their audio level where it is all the same. XM seems more like a CD player with volume much louder on some songs than others. My only comment would be that XM needs more processing to level the sound out more. But overall, I prefer the sound of satellite radio over FM.
Also, I'll definately take a small hit on sound quality to have more channels and more content. The huge variety and content is the most important thing to me. I certainly don't support cutting channels to increase bandwith on others, and I would think you are definately in the minority who would favor that.

With a direct connection in my truck (factory installed) Sirius sounds as good as FM.

Most people would only give up channels for quality if the channels they would loose would be the ones that they don't listen to. Which channels would that be?

Sirius and XM offer commercial free music of just about every genre. Plus talk and entertainment that is not available in every market.
