I just transferred my activation to a new tuner. They said they just started the $15 transfer fee this month. But they were nice enough not to charge me for the transfer.

Wow... Now we really have incentive to NOT buy new radios. I think if the Starbase in my truck ever dies I may just take it out and live with an iPod jack instead of paying for the privilege of replacing the broken radio.

Wow that sucks my new radio arrived today and I am going to do the swap today. I think I may have to complain about the $15 fee to get out of it. Sorry I understand the first time and any new radios to my account but existing accounts thats crazy.

Not meaning to double post but WTF.

So I was switching my tuner today. (yeah a little later than I said but oh well) anyways They do it. He tells me my old radio is deactivated I tell him no it sure as heck is not as my old radio is still tuned howard100 and is working fine him and me argue 5 minutes and he refuses to believe me (in India or something).

So I hang up to call back to get someone to and I think that I can get through quicker through billing (not sure cause I am still on hold) and there is a $15 charge. What the hell? I was never even told there was a $15 charge, just for that they will remove it, you can't be charging someones card like that and not disclosing it.

I will let ya all know how this goes.

UPDATE:
On hold with an American cs rep now. She saw that he didn't mention squat on the call or in the notes about the $15 I told her it was fraud and she was trying to beat around the bush about a refund of it. She did send the deactivation signal. She came back and told me she was able to remove the $15 charge. I told her if they updated their TOS they are required by law to notify their customers by mail with a new copy of the TOS. She agreed and took off the charge since not telling me of the charge even was fraud no matter how small. I know Sirius is doing it to make money ($15 is a bit much though) but under the circumstances and whatnot I wanted them to remove it.

To bad I didn't see this thread earlier. Because my Stiletto 2 software crashed, I tried doing a software recovery no luck. So I called up Sirius warranty and they are sending me a whole new unit for free. My parents use to own a Starmate 4 and I am going to use it for a little while. So yesterday I did tuner swap with no problem. So this morning I check my online banking and I was charged $15 bucks. I call up Sirius today and asked why I was charge for $15 dollars and the CSR told me for now on they charge $15 dollars for a tuner swap. Then how come I wasn't told there were was a tuner swap fee and I got billed for it. So they checked there notes, there was nothing about it. So they decided to keep the $15 dollar charge and waive my $12.95 fee and next month they will charge me half of $12.95. Sounds like good deal to me.

So for now on when you switch units it a $15 dollar charge and if you swap units from warranty it free.

Lame. I was kind of thinking about getting a Stiletto 2... but fifteen bucks ON TOP of the radio price? No thanks.

Yeah I got lucky enough to catch it before they processed payment (since they do every night at midnight) and sure enough after the refund logged in and a $0 balance showed.

I don't like this, but I am not surprised by it. These guys are running out of money and they need to get it from anywhere they can.

I know there are folks who swap tuners out all the time and they did this because they knew there was no fee involved. I think this will stop folks swapping tuners all the time.

It is strange I use to be bad about swapping tuners, but after I got my S50, then Stiletto SL100 and SL2, I've only swapped when I got new tuners.

I wonder how long it will be before XM does this?

Now people will be way less likely to try out new radios when they are released, and more likely to cancel their account when a radio breaks and they need to replace it. I don't like being nickled and dimed like that. I wonder if this transfer fee is on top of the $75 they charge to transfer a lifetime sub.

Had the guy told me they had a charge of $15 to do a tuner swap I would have said ok. Told them I don't agree with that since I am already a subscriber but I would have paid it.

But in my case this guy never said sqaut about it and placed that charge I refuse to pay that especially when I'm not told that my card is being charged.

I am not sure there are really a lot of subscribers out there that go out and buy new radio's just to try them. I also don't think this will impact subs overall. If a radio breaks and you are replacing it, much like with the $75 transfer fee they will more than likely wave it.

Like you I don't like it, but in the end the choice is pay $15 or listen to FM. I think that is a pretty damn simple choice! LOL

Yeah, I've said that a time or two myself, but in reality there is just nothing out there like Sat Radio. I am not cancelling for $15, just ain't happenen! Hell I waste that just buying cold drinks in a weeks time.

I just had a thought.
Would it not be cheaper to just cancel and re-sub? Isn't the online activation fee $10?
