I joined because of Stern, that simple. I hadn't considered either brand before he announced his move, and I'm quite sure I wouldn't have, despite my father having XM and several friends having XM and Sirius.

Having Sirius for a couple weeks now, I really like what is offered. Octane is perfect for me, and I love talk radio so there's more than enough of that. Raw Dog is just excellent (the Wiseguy Show is a blast, and Jim Bruer is hilarious). I'm not gay, but OutQ is entertaining. There are so many personalities on Sirius that I find myself enjoying. I especially like the fact that there are DJs on the music channels; it just gives it more personality and makes it less sterile.

My only gripe is the sound quality, but this isn't the thread to discuss that.

All this is bonus, since all I really wanted was Stern.

Some of my favorites so far:
The Pulse
Octane !!!!
Alt Nation
Hair Nation
Underground Garage
Hard Attack
Coffee House

From channel 100 on up, I usually just flip until I hear something interesting (I usually make it as far as Raw Dog 104). For talk alone, this is an excellent service.

My exposure to XM is limited, but I do know that they play some obscure music, and the lack of DJs just turned me off.

I got Sirius for Stern.

I like the variety of music channels but the sound quality doesn't entirely live up to expectations and I wish there was a dedicated funk channel.

Stern sealed the deal for me, too. The other direction.

Music is way better. Plus we have the NFL, NBA, and Notre Dame. Although I dont listen to sports on the radio when Im driving its nice to listen to. Give me a break...Howard!!! But those are not reasons why I chose SIRIUS.

SIRIUS is just the better service overall!

Stern. It's that simple.

A friend at work leaves his XM Roady plugged into a homekit at the office and I was generally unimpressed. Commercial free music is fine, but it seems many of the stations are programmed exactly the way old-fashioned radio is... KISS for teen pop, Mix for dentist office waiting room music, etc...

Since getting SIRIUS, I'm enjoying ThePulse, Boombox and the 80s channel... In addition to Howard 100.

After signing up, I Google around and find this place and see grumblings about SIRIUS possibly dumping Fox News. Ahh, I've come home. (No flames... Couldn't resist).

Default why

I started off with Sirius 2 years ago, but have almost completed my move to XM. XM's musical content has far surpassed Sirius's since 9-29-05.
Sirius does so many things right, like quality DJ's, but so many things bad, like music programming/repetition in so many categories.
My fingers are crossed for improvement as soon as the Howard dust settles.

Default I got it for...

....Howard Stern and also Derek and Romaine (I'm one of their straight listeners). I had XM in a company car for a long time and was never really impressed. I didn't hate it, but I was glad it was free. I heard Sirius when I was with a friend of mine and really liked it. I can't say why the music is better, it just is. I seem to switch around less with my Sirius, if that makes sense. But Derek and Romaine crack me up. So it was them plus Howard that sealed my choice. I even got my dad to get some for his workers as End of year bonuses.

Well, I started with Sirius half a year ago for a couple of reasons. I've had XM for almost 3 years, and it was time for a change. Some of XM's "moves" and decisions lately haven't gone too well in my book. Here are my rants about XM's service.

So now, I'm a dual-subcriber and finding myself listening to Sirius more often
- JVC KT-SR2000 (Sirius)
- Pioneer DEH-4500MP (XM)
- MyFi (XM)

Default Why I have both

I subscribe to both XM and Sirius - and while I have a slight preference for Sirius, each has qualities I can't find in the other.

Some of Sirius's pluses:

1. Less of a canned sound. Many music channels have interesting on-air personalities who are knowledgeable and care about the music. While that's not true of all of Sirius' music channels, XM definitely sounds like more of an endless jukebox. At times I prefer that, but in general I'm more inclined to Sirius' approach.
2. In general, Sirius' musical taste is better but I have to admit it is more repetitive than XM and offers less musical diversity.
3. Generally, the talk radio on Sirius is better - more NPR, PRI, CBC1, etc.
4. I'm not a Stern fan but I appreciate having his madness as a listening option.
5. Jazz programming is generally better although more repetitive.
6.Sirius Bluegrass channel much better than XM's
7. XM has nothing comparable to the free form unpredictability of Sirius Disorder.
8. Sirius' Classic Vinyl and Classic Rewind are much better than XM's Top Tracks.

Some of XM's pluses:

1. Better special programming (more live concerts, Petty, Dylan and other musicians hosting their own shows.
2. I appreciate that XM still has a folk channel although too much of it is bad 60's frat folk (K trio, Brothers 4 etc.)
3. Greater musical diversity although presentation is weaker.
4. Major league baseball
5. Air America
6. In general XM's country programming is better although Sirius' Outlaw Country is the best of the lot.
7. XM's classic soul channel is superior to Sirius'. The blues and reggae channels are about equal.
8 XM's Deep Tracks is much stronger and more interesting than its counterpart, XM's The Vault.

I got Sirius because:

#1 Latin Pop Hits Station (Universo Latino)

XM doesn't have a atin Pop Hits Station. They took it away.
