XM's sound quality is horrible right now. I've been with XM since 7/14/05, a dual sub for 4 months now, and finally got the Streamer going, now ditching 3 of my 5 xm subs (SKYFi2, MyFi, and Passport for Nexus 50) for sirius subs.

XM for MLB, Sirius for music!

So you like the fact that Sirius basically ignores a ton of 80's hits and focuses on the rock ones? I actually think this is one area that XM kills Sirius.

Hello, all.

I went with Siruis, because I didn't want to feed the Clear Channel monopoly. Now, granted, Sirius is backed by some big boys, too, but, after CC ruined Coast to Coast AM, I will not give them any business.

Now that I've got Sirius, I think it's great. The only thing I wish is that they'd lower the cost of owning multiple units.

This is my first post, by the way.

I've heard much more 80's hits I was familiar with on The Big 80's than I ever heard on my XM 3 month trial.

Why did you pick Sirius over XM or Dump XM for Sirius?

I think this is where XM throws in a lot of uncharted music that folks haven not heard that turns some subscribers off. I actually like the occasional deeper playlist on XM's decade channels. But for me to listen to them day in and day out, I can't handle it. Coming home to SIRIUS channels where there is music I know and love is a necessity for me to be happy with Sat Radio. It is the reason that if I had to choose one I'd have to go with SIRIUS, but fortunately I don't have to choose just one.

It is really good that these services don't have the exact same approach as it makes a dual subcriber like myself happy I've got both.

I do agree that XM had a bit of a deeper playlist, but Sirius seems to have a huge playlist that still has some unfamiliar stuff, but has ALL the big hits as well.

When I borrowed my friends XM unit for a day...and listened to boneyard, I heard a lot of horrible music. So deeper playlists just isn't all that appealing. Sirius still plays a ton of music that you will never hear on FM, but they don't seem to get as ridiculous as XM.

True, IMO, Sirius caters to the soccer mom crowd in the decade department. What really gets me is do we really need Pour Some Sugar on Me on the 80's, Rewind, Buzzsaw, shuffle, and Hair Nation? Then snub a lot of huge R&B hits. We have Classic Rock overload!

I hear people say this and read it in forums all the time. I can't get a good answer from anyone. My hand to God I am not trying to pick a fight, this is a serious question. How is XM equipment better than Sirius equipment? I have a Sirius Starmate Replay and a Roady XT. My XT is much smaller than than the Starmate, but that's where better ends.

The Starmate has the channel, artist and song title as well genre and time. The XT can have either/or some of these things.

The Starmate has replay with all of those features as well as game alert and game zone. The XT has a sports ticker.

The Starmate has artist/song memo. The XT?

The Starmate has artist/song seek. The XT?

I only paid $10 more for the Starmate ($69) than I did the Roady ($59) and I paid full retail price for both. I know that I could have gotten these features in the SkyFi 2 but for double the price. Is that better?

I looked at the SkyFi 2 before I bought the Roady. It had familiar features and I thought that I would probably like that radio better, but I didn't want to spend $150 to read the channel, artist and song title all at the same time.

That's interesting. I've always said: You don't make yourself look better by making others look bad.

I think you (O&A or Stern) should just do the best show you can and let it stand on it's own. No reason to tear other's down if they suck - people will see that on their own.

I've had Sirius since 2003. I've been happy with it. I've got a lifetime subscription in my car that works well with my Kenwood HU. I recently got a GPS which has the XM Navtraffic capability. I hooked it up and called and subscribed to XM Navtraffic. I considered getting XM Radio (the difference in cost to me would be $7/month). Looking at their line-up, though, it looked like more of the same to me. I've never listened to them. I've got friends who have them and like it I've just never had the opportunity. The only thing in their lineup that I really liked was one of their talk channels. I think it's CH165 (I don't know the name). Anyway, it had hosts like Bruce Williams, George Norey (it's out there but it's usually entertaining), and a few others.

Sirius has a pretty crappy talk-lineup in my opinion.

Anyway, I checked out XMFan figuring it'd be like it is here with people just chatting about what they liked/disliked about XM. My initial impression of XM Fan, though, was that it was a bunch of fan-boy teenagers who just rattle off XM is great / Sirius sucks. Stuff like: You're stupid if you don't like XM. Yes, there were some decent conversations on there but it just seemed like there was a lot of mine-is-better than yours nonsense (which, ironically, is basically what this thread is). Anyway, it just sort of surprised me.

For me, if my Kenwood HU has been XM-ready instead of Sirius-ready, back in the day, I probably would have gone XM. Sirius may have made me come back for the lifetime subscription, though. I think, for most people, it's a wash either way. Like subscribing to DirecTV or DishNetwork - it really doesn't matter for most people.

Oh, one thing I did like about XM was that you could see their schedules online. I could see when certain shows/hosts were on certain channels. I haven't really seen that with Sirius. I've just seen the channel-lineup card.

Out of all of that I did find a 'now-playing on XM' page that showed the channel/artist/title. I looked at it and thought, "What's wrong with the data?," and then I remembered they're limited to 16 characters or something. That was pretty short-sighted on XM's part. I like Sirius with the full-titles (although the extra crap-information they have been adding recently was getting annoying (I think they stopped, though)).

How did they ruin Coast to Coast?

I listen to it sometimes but I'm not fan-enough where I can tell a change over the years.

The only thing I've noticed is that it gets more into political conversations now than before. I just turn it off then. I don't listen to Coast-to-Coast AM for politics I listen to it for the freak-show aspect.

My favorite is when they have ghost-story nights. People calling in to tell the freak stuff that has happened to them. Some of the stories are pretty good.

The 'experts' that call in are usually pretty entertaining because they speak such nonsense. It's like they try to appear as true scientists and then gloss over idiotic assumptions and nonsense talk and then sum it up with, "so, as you can see, it makes perfect sense." It just makes me laugh.

I remember one said something like: If you put two mirrors in a room facing each other it acts as a soul capacitor and will trap souls there <blah blah blah>

Soul-capacitor - that's pretty good. The key was he followed it up with something that summarized it as if it were all completely factual so it made him the expert.

Anyway, I find that pretty entertaining and it's also nice that people are listening to it and buying into it figuring they can make their own soul-capacitor at home out of things lying around the house (like mirrors!).

Good stuff. Politics talk on it = bad, though.

I chose Sirius over XM for two reasons...

1) the NFL Network.
2) the old Vacation channel (now Radio Margaritaville)

Post Tarheels!

Although XM radio did cover the games I wanted to get the NCAA tournament plus now I am able to listen to all the football games. I just think overall Sirius has much more to offer then XM did
