I prefer the depth and eclecticism of XM, but I can't see myself ever giving up Sirius.
Variety is the spice of life. I enjoyed those programs on America and find it to be one of the best Country Channels on XM. They did a Stain Glass special this morning at 6 AM with Bill Anderson, he released a new Country Gospel CD. It was just fantastic, I love hearing about why the picked certain songs to record and how it impacted their lives. They had a GREAT interview with George Jones last night and that was the funniest interview and yet some really GREAT music was played. You just don't get this type programming on Sirius. I enjoy the Roadhouse too on Sirius, but I just get tired of those same few songs by artist being played over and over again. It's been a really big turn off as of late for me. America is sort of the interview and special country programming channel, so you can always expect something like this type programming. Hank's Place they tend to play a great deal more music with less of this type programming.

I had a Kenwood headunit and wanted satellite radio, so since they only had the Sirius tuner for Kenwood headunits, I bought it. This was back before Stern's announcement, so that was not a deciding factor for me. Later, I replaced my Kenwood headunit with a Pioneer one and now had a choice for satellite. I thought about giving XM a try, but because of Stern's announcement, I stuck with Sirius and am glad I did.

I signed up for Sirius in July of 2002, and I added XM last fall.

I went with Sirius over XM because:

1) They were the only Commercial Free Choice (XM followed Sirius Lead)

2) They had agreements with the Automakers that I would likely buy cars from (Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep)

3) Free Online Streaming (XM followed Sirius Lead)

I have both, but I like Sirius for the following

1) Better Music stations overall, I can't find a single XM stream that I can put the radio on and just leave it.

2) Better Talk Selection, this might change if Sirius does not add Fox Talk channel like XM

3) SBS is the best online satellite radio community

I keep XM for MLB and Glenn Beck, I have now turned off XM until spring.

The quality of the special programming is usually very good, I have no issue with that. And I even sometimes seek out some of the programs (IT on the decades channels is awesome, History of Fusion on Beyond Jazz is great). Maybe I just have bad timing, and run into the specials when I'm really just in the mood for regular music streams.

If subscription numbers keep growing the way they have been recently, there will be a lot of "satellite radio junkies" around in the future.

Default I got it for Stern but got addicted

I remember the day I was listening to Stern make his big announcement. That day I knew I wanted to be a part of it.

I got it shortly after that. And obviously was hooked on it without Stern even being on their. I generally listen to talk radio but found I enjoyed listening to music again, since I wasn't bombarded with repeats and commercials.

Even if all I had was
Alt Nation, Maxim Radio, Chill, Boombox, Sirius Hits 1, 80s I would still gladly pay $12.95 per month.

As TX WJ put it as well, the cars that I would buy (or wish I could buy) have SIRIUS in them, Dodge, MINI, BMW, Mercedes, Chrysler, Audi, Infiniti, Porsche, Land Rover, Jaguar. A lot of those brands may not be the biggest but I definetely think of them as the coolest. The same goes for SIRIUS.

2 reasons....first, Mel is (was) in Detroit, GM's hometown...

second...This is from xm's SEC filings...

"The agreement is subject to renegotiation at any time based upon the installation of radios that are compatible with a common receiver platform or capable of receiving Sirius Satellite Radio’s service. The agreement is subject to renegotiation if as of November 2005, ... ...There can be no assurances as to the outcome of any such renegotiations. GM’s exclusivity obligations will discontinue if, by November 2005 and at two-year intervals thereafter, the Company fails to achieve and maintain specified minimum market share levels in the satellite digital radio service market... I was going to go with XM because of MLB and Glen Beck. But the different channels were of varying loudness, one would be real loud, the next would be real quiet. Then the music stations, one song would be loud, the next one quiet, the DJ would be so quiet I couldn't hardly hear him, then he'd take a call and the caller would be so loud I thought my speakers would blow. That was enough to make me walk away.

Sirius seems to have audio leveling under control. The audio is is at the same level for all channels and stays the same on each channel between songs and announcers. Nicely done. I could care less about the NFL, but it was worth sacrificing the MLB for steady audio feeds. Plus Sirius has Cam Edwards with the NRA News on Sirius Patriot, which is good enough to seal the deal.

Mainly for the NFL, and the News outlets since I watch very little TV. When I do it's news. I do wish they'd add MSNBC (if they're even allowed) for Imus and Hardball, but that's not a huge gripe.

Having the old MTV VJ's from the original was a big plus.

I may get XM online for the $8.00 a month it costs (and probably first the way it's looking) but I like the Starmate Replay over and above anything XM has, and the Artist and Song seeks help out immensely.

I had to major reasons for choosing Sirius over XM.
1. Sirius owners are all fanatical about Sirius. They're the best salespeople a company could ask for. They all rave about the system, the stations, and the DJs.
2. XM is more self-censored than Sirius. They have more "clean" channels. Personally I prefer the music as it was intended by the artist, rather than PC-ized.

Howard Stern.

The only thing on XM that I wish Sirius had is Major League Baseball. It would be great to be guaranteed that no matter where I drive I'd be able to hear my team play ... but I do live in my team's home market and watch the majority of the games on tv, so it's not a huge loss, it would just be a nice bonus.

I originally got Sirius for Howard (I spent my teenage years listening to him in DC), NHL (I'm a huge hockey fan) and NASCAR in '07. I decided to add XM because 1) I got a fantastic price on a Roady2 and 2) so I could have NASCAR until '07.

After a month or so of listening to the music programming on both services, I found the decade programming (60's-90's) on XM to be more to my liking, but BackSpin is still my favorite channel - The Rhyme on XM doesnt come close to it.

Then the NHL cut the deal with XM and my gf decided to commandeer my Roady :\

Dont get me wrong...I love Sirius, and the community here at SBS is the best, but I like XM too.

I just ordered my free RoadyXT (Got one of the coupons from the World Series), so I'll have a choice of Sirius and XM in the car again soon.
If you're Sirius:

XACT XTR8CK Replay w/car kit
Sportster Replay w/home and car kits
Original Sportster w/car and home kits

Audiovox Xpress w/car kit
Roady 2 w/ home & car kits
RoadyXT w/car kit
