Exactly. I was telling him the exact same thing about SIRIUS Pops in the other thread. It's not so fun to have music you like that can only be heard on that channel and that channel only taken away.

How do you know what my favorite channels are? I have to tell you that Starlite and Roadhouse are in my top 5 presets. But as I did last year and the year before that, I am willing to give them up for a month for some Christmas Music. It is going to happen regardless of what I want or the channels I would have picked to replace, but life is too short to get too worked up over it. Unlike some of the single artist take over of channels, we do know this will end the day after Christmas.

I not only listen too, but record the Bill Gaither Homecoming Shows each week on Roadhouse and I will certainly miss that for a month as it is the only source of Southern Gospel on SIRIUS. But it will be back, so I can live without it for a month to be able to enjoy some Country/Traditional Christmas Music.

Would I have picked different channels to preempt? Probably so, but who's to say those channels would not have been someone else's favorite channel?

That would work for me, but unfortunately, the decision is already made. I'd personally like the have the Bridge Back from The Who at this point.

Why dont they simply add new channels to cover the new xmas music?

seems like a simple solution? Yes..

What sucks is that there's not a Christmas channel for more hard-rock tunes - like Joan Jett's Little Drummer Boy and AC/DC's Mistress for Christmas.
I highly doubt we'll hear these on Starlight.

No actually it isn't a solution because they don't have the bandwidth to be able to do this without it causing all the channels to take a hit SQ wise. So the only way to do it is to temp replace current channels.

Seismo, I did hear some rock Christmas music last year on Starlight as I recall, but not a whole lot. I don't think there is enough rock Christmas music to have a single channel for it. Traditional, Contemporary, Classical and Country have always dominated the holiday genre and it appears they will have those covered. I am sort of getting excited and looking forward to it, though I will miss the channels they replace for a month.

you would think if we could put a man on the moon FORTY years ago that adding a little more "bandwith" wouldnt be that much of a drain.

Here's a question: they start taking up 3 entire channels with holiday music a month before Christmas (sometimes terrestrial radio start even earlier- 3WS radio in Pittsburgh actually started last week, 6 weeks before Christmas). Yet, I assume they will go back to normal on December 26 like last year IIRC.

Lots of people are off celebrating the holidays with family and friends the whole week between Christmas and New Year's. Why wouldn't they start on Thanksgiving at the earliest (I'd start later, like the 15th of December if I was a PD) and extend it to New Year's? I'd like to have played my Sirius for my guests at a party I had on Dec. 28 last year but all the holiday music was gone, and none was to be found on terrestrial, either. I actually busted out the vinyl, believe it or not.

yeah at least have one channel up until new years, that seems to make sense?

although I am sure some sirius homer will chime in about bandwith or something, let me look at sirius's balance sheet and see if they can afford more server space..

Cool disappointing christmas music

channel 2 (starlite) half the time im turning the channel because any kind of modern christmas music is just garbage

channel 86 (sirius pops) seems to play the same songs every few hours

channel 62 (roadhouse) i have no use for country music lol

maybe im not in the christmas mood yet or something but the music sirius is giving us for christmas is weak should be a channel for 40 thru 60's christmas music (when it was actually classy) and another channel for the modern garbage

I hate to complain, because I really love Christmas music; but, I have to agree with you. I want to change the channel everytime they start playing a Christmas song from one of the those boy band groups.
