Default DJ's pick songs?

Do the DJ's for the various stations who actually have them pick the songs that are played, or are they pre-programmed? I was curious as to the degree of freedom of the DJ's in selecting music. For example, if you call the listener request line do they actually honor the requests?

No, they don't not. They are handpicked and given to them.

So, if I understand this correctly, they have ZERO freedom to select songs during their shifts? If this is the case, it is relatively dissapointing...So, any requests sent to the channels have no way of being honored unless sirius decides to program them in at some point for the DJ's?

For the most part, that's correct. Most of the DJs you hear are not live at the time you are hearing them, with some exceptions. But if you send in a request, there's a good chance they'll play it .... the next day. That's one disadvantage of satellite vs. terrestrial. I'm hoping that over time, as Sirius starts to make a profit, they'll hire more DJs and eventually they'll all be live.

On the Sirius Disorder channel, I think the individual DJs do have more say on the music that gets played.

Voice tracking is the "wave of the future". I think you'll see more of it, not less. Not just Sirius, but XM and terrestrial radio too. The DJs have little to no input on terrestrial radio either. Although that would vary by format, station, program director, etc.
Looking for help on Sirius/XM??
