I noticed on XM stations The Loft and XM Cafe, the DJ's do speak for longer periods of time, but they don't speak as often. There might be an hour straight of music without interruption. But when the DJ's do come on, they tend to give more information about the artists or songs that they played. The DJ's on the Loft are also very knowledgable and do add to the listening experience in my opinion.

I like having DJ's as they add personality to the program. Otherwise it seems like it's just a jukebox or computer playing the songs. However, I don't like it when DJ's speak just for the sake of speaking. Sometimes on Sirius, the DJ will come on and say something completely irrelevant to what they just played or are about to play. If that's the case, I'd rather not hear from them at all. A knowledgable DJ shouldn't have that problem.

Oh dear god, the jukebox and iPod statements are already starting to infiltrate this thread...make it stop!!

Seriously, let's not turn this into another "I hate DJ's" or "I don't hate DJ's" thread because there are a LOT of those currently around that a simple search would find. And no matter how ridiculous his decision may or may not be, it's simply about a guy who chose to cancel his service.

Well I don't get the need to tell everyone you are leaving, but if you weren't happy then you did the right thing for yourself. Good Luck whatever you decide to do for music and entertainment!

Default XM and Country Music

XM will certainly satisfy your country music crave. X Country is simply outstanding, and that's just scratching the surface of their country music offerings. I was once Sirius's number one fan, no more, I'm now hard core XM all the way. Musical diversity ? XM has it. Mainstream FM ? Sirius has it but with foul mouthed DJ's too. Wow man....say a few F words and the dudes go wild.
Give me the music anyday !!!

Musical diversity = an awful lot of songs from an awful lot of bands that you have NEVER heard of. You haven't heard of them for a reason.

Main stream FM? You're joking right? The Octane play list alone is at least 20x's the size of the hard rock stations in Cincinnati. AT LEAST! Also, on my drive home from Louisville tonight a DJ on Squizz I think it was dropped the f-bomb twice. Sirius has no monopoly on foul mouthed DJ's.

I'm a dual sub, so am no XM hater. Not by a long shot. I call BS on everything that you have said here.

How can you say Octane has a good playlist? It seems like they only play 10 bands. Of those 10 bands, they only play 5 songs deep of their playlists. I was lucky enough to get offered $50 to do a survey on Octane and I told them that they need to deepen their playlist and quit playing NICKLEBACK!!

Well, actually, I didn't say that. What I said was the their play list is MUCH bigger than the local hard rock station in Cincinnati.

Compared to what I would have to listen to without Sirius, it IS a good play list. There, now I said it. Much, much better than WEBN, WAQZ.

10 bands? Please.

I would agree that the play list could be deeper. Somewhere between where they are now and where XM is. Deeper. Not obscure like XM tends to get. And hell yes, drop Nickleback.

It's funny. When someone posts they're leaving there's always bound to be at least one, if not many, people wondering why they were making that post. But when someone says hello for the first time, it's never questioned: "Why do you need to tell everyone you're now a sirius customer"?

I think it's instructive to know if someone's taking off because, in this case, a certain station's been removed.
I guess I come on here to learn about Sirius; the good, bad and ugly. I don't care much for cheerleading, as if we're all in a club. We are drawn together because we're paying customers in a relationship with a for-profit corporation.

I like the conversation either way. Otherwise you may as well not post or comment at all. Why tell someone you do or don't like some feature of the service? It's mainly for conversation.

As for me (actually adding to this one):

I don't mind the DJs and get that it breaks things up rather than it being just some MP3 list. With that, though, I don't really care for the 'morning breath' or whatever they're calling it now on Sirius Hits 1. They're little more than any other FM morning show. Just stupid crap. I don't mind some talk in there and wouldn't want them restricted to some set of rules but right now it's just endless sexual inuendo and them pushing the 'get a radio for a friend get a month free' crap. I've already paid you, leave me alone.

Some will say, "But it's radio!" Well, it's a tough sell to friends and family when you say, "It's just like FM, but you pay for it!"

And I don't even mind them dropping the occasional F-bomb but there's a huge difference between someone who says 'F---' occassionally (or any other curse, really) and someone who uses the word as a pause between their thoughts that haven't quite collated in their mouth yet.

I don't think most people do come into a forum and make an announcement that they are NEW!!! They simple post and I think we can figure that out by looking at their post count. However, some new posters not knowing were to get information or which forum to post in will say they are new in order to get/help and instructions.

Probably depends on the channel but for Sirius Hits 1 it's not too far off.

It still has commercials - just Sirius commercials constantly telling me to get friends to join.

It's got the idiotic suggestive DJ banter.

Those were the things I left FM for.

Like I said, I don't mind some DJ chatter. It's pretty painful with their non-relevant conversation about nothing and them telling me how many months I can get free by signing up friends. I suppose their commercials work as I'm able to rattle them off. I'm not signing up friends, though.

FM radio isn't too bad as long as you skip the 'mourning shows'. Afternoons (at least in Atlanta) gets more into music, and yes, a few commercials, than mornings.
