Question New to portables, need help

Sorry about the simple question, but I'm out of the loop on this stuff. I've got Sirius in my new truck and love it. I want to get a portable radio to use on my weekend outings, mostly to listen to music. It looks like the Sportster Replay is free now if I buy a boombox and subscribe. The sub is not a problem, but which box is best to use in an outdoor situation? The $89 Desktop docking station, or the $99 Sportster Boombox? What about the free Audiovox(?) boombox I saw a link to here, where you just pay postage? Will the Sporster work with that too? Is the Sportster about the same as the Starmate, which is also free when you buy a box?

TIA for the insight.

Rub

The starmate and sportster replay do not have compatible docking options. The sportster will not work with the audiovox boombox.
The best option for outdoor use with the sportster replay is the boombox. Although if you want to spend a little more the new universal boombox will allow you to use all the new generation recievers, sportster and starmate 4 , sportster and starmate 3 , as well as the stratus.
Good luck...
And
Welcome!

The Sportster boombox would be more suitable for toting around and using outdoors. It's a traditionally styled boombox. Also, the Sportster unit is more of a true plug-n-play/docking unit than the Starmate. It uses one connection slot to interface with the car dock, home dock, and boombox to engage the power, antenna, and line-out. With the Starmate, you have to plug and unplug each connection separately each time you transport it. So not only is it less convenient, but the wires are more apt to fail due to wear-and tear damage.

Thanks guys, just ordered the Sportster w/boombox.
Now I've got to figure out where to sign up for the subscription for it...

Just go to Sirius.com and set up and account. You can activate the new Sportster online. You can always call them too.
