I have two radios and my sister has one Sirius radio and we have them from 3 different manufacturers/models. JVC, Starmate, & Stiletto. They all exhibit this warble, or if this were the old audio tape days, it was called "flutter". It's especially evident on channels where music has solo flute, violin or piano like the classical and jazz channels, but I suspect all of the channels are now doing this. BTW, the classical channels are totally unlistenable, and the jazz channel 72 approaches unlistenable.

I have a theory. I noticed this problem AFTER the updates to both radios I have that occured the past couple of days. Is it possible the update did something unpredictable to the sound? Or is this just a coincidence?

I REALLY hope they fix this soon...

Well, I'm really questioning why I ever subbed with Sirius. Not to be a fanboy, I've never have had any issues with XM. I'm thinking seriously of dropping Sirius.

yet you still hand them 12.95 a month of your hard earned money and the best they can do is lower the sound quality. Sheesh

Yeah. I call this the "Spacely Effect" because it's similar to the engine sound emitted by the cars in The Jetsons.

My truck's audio processors don't know how to handle it (besides going to MONO). They (processors) know that something's up with Sirius and it's no good.

I listened a little yesterday and still heard it. Both the Pulse and BBC Radio 1 were affected.

It sounds like someone is blowing bubbles into a liquid with a straw in the background. That's my best description.

I actually plugged in the Stiletto and had to concentrate a lot through the clock radio to actually hear the watery sound. But your right, it does sound like it's underwater. Even in my mother's car, where she has temporarily gone back to CD's and left her PNP3 in her high-def speakers.

Both my Sportsters (a Replay and an older one) have the so-called underwater effect. I didn't really notice it until yesterday when I was listening to a song on LoC 26 and noticed the bass lines sounded really messed up, almost out of tune.

The thing is, once you notice it, you can't just ignore it. It seems to be getting worse.

Yeah, I noticed the same sound problem a few days ago as well. I listen to BBC Radio 1 more than any channel, and I immediately noticed the "garbled" sound on this channel. (It is most notable and pronounced when someone is talking; moreso than during music). I wasn't aware that it was affecting all channels though. I figured it was just "Radio 1" that was screwed up again, since Sirius can't ever seem to keep this channel sounding decent.

I agree though; this is UNACCEPTABLE. I would compare the "garbled", underwater sound to an 18k webstream or so. I also noticed that I received some sort of mysterious "update" to my radio late last week and that is when the problems began. After the update, I was looking for channel changes and found none, so it must have had something to do with bandwith and the lousy sound that has resulted.

Come on Sirius, get your sh*t together. I love satellite radio and couldn't live without it, but both Sirius and XM are really pretty crappy companies when you look at the way they run things.

Thumbs down

I'm hearing it on 101 with an S50. It started yesterday afternoon in the middle of the Bubba show. It's espically evident when Howard and Robin talk. Really annoying. I've done everything I can think of (except call Sirius)

edit: just as I posted, it seems to have passed on 101

Thumbs down

I noticed it started Thanksgiving day in my car when I took a 5hr each way road trip. When I got home plugged into my home stereo and was shocked at how bad it sounds.

Sportster (non-replay)
Car Cassette Adapter
Home Audio Onkyo via Direct Line-in

Happens on all rock channels and even Stern has been effected.

Best way I can describe it is that it sounds to me like internet radio streams at low bitrate with that horrible lossy swirling over everything.... This is not as noticable on lofi equipment or with an FM modulator but if you have a direct connect or an OEM like I do then this is VERY noticable .... I usually only listen to talk on Sirius most of the time anyways but this is still annoying when I want to listen to music .....

I listen mostly to 26 and 93 and it's almost unlistenable. I would challenge anybody to listen to these channels and not be annoyed.
