I dont get why people pay for the better internet, if you have Dish Network and one of their programming packages all the music channels from Sirius are FREE and are HIGHER bandwidth then the Satellite Radio and High Quality Internet service combined.

Well since DirecTV has about 60% of the Sat TV market that means that probably 60% that have Sat TV don't have Sirius. This doesn't include the many that have Cable that doesn't include Sirius.

But you make a good point for someone that does have Dish. I won't be switching to Dish to get Sirius.

One tuner.... Home, Car, Office and On The Go!!!

Scott you answered your own question keyword being if

a marketing dream .. reminds me of all the "FREE" hours that you got on AOL
for only $19.95 a month .... now you can get "FREE SIRIUS MUSIC" for only
$34-$70 or what ever Dish charges

some people prefer the expensive $12 instead of the FREE $34

I'd pay at least $5 extra to get better sound quality in the car!! The SQ sucks! It is not better than FM and is nowhere near CD quality, stop fooling yourselves, clean your ears out and listen!!!!!!!!!!

Given that every music channel on Sirius now suffers from the "underwater sound" and some are now unlistenable because of it, I would spend $13 a month in a heartbeat to get Sirius on Dish. Of course, Dish won't sell the Sirius channels Ă* la carte, instead bundling it with the $40 America's Top 120 package.

I don't know if they do this because of contractual restrictions, but if so, Dish is leaving revenue on the table every month by not making Sirius available Ă* la carte. Perhaps Scott could contact all those Dish Network insider contacts of his and clue them in. ;-)

Does it cost them any more to stream at the higher bitrate and does the $2.99 cover those costs? Or is it just another potential revenue stream?

yes it does. the riaa has set it up so they have to pay really high fees to broadcast cd quality audio. they arent trying to rip you off. they will go broke if they dont charge you because it will cost THEM money for you to listen.
