Why don't you transfer the lifetime sub to the 2nd radio in your house, sell the car unit and get XM for the car. That way you can continue to record the show and listen as you have been doing and you can get your music too. But then, why don't you just download the music you want too? Oh yeah, cuz that's stealing...

Trying to justify or validate your excuses is just juvenile. Did your parents teach you to do what's right or to do what's right only if someone else is watching?

My bank isn't offering a 6% savings account. By your logic, that gives me the right to rob them.

This guy is a wannabe, and they do not offer Stern MP3s as far I can see. People usually offer up 6-hour MP3s labeled "Howard Stern Show 12/1/06" which is just blank recording, they've got your IP, they hack you or they turn the IP into FBI where they arrest you. I know this from experience.

No. If everyone did as I said, Sirius would sell legal MP3s of Stern on a podcast basis where you subscribe for a few dollars a month and automatically download MP3s daily through RSS feeds.

How do I know this?

A few years ago, everyone pirated MP3s of music online. Why? Because CDs suck and MP3 players and MP3-based CDs are good. Why did peopel do this?

Because they wanted MP3s, not CDs. Sure they could buy a CD and waste time ripping it and encoding it and then throw the CD out, but why pay for something you dont want, waste your time and effort doing work to get the product you want, when you can get the same thing with no work for free?

Record companies lost money because of this so they did what people wanted - they SOLD mp3s of music. Now the record companies make 10x more money selling MP3s legally online than CDs in stores.

So if everyone canceled Sirius and downloaded MP3s from 3rd party sites, then Sirius would eventually get the hint and start selling them and at least personally, I would pay for them... you just cant pay for them now because they arent for sale, and why should I have to not only pay $15 per month (After taxes) but buy a $500 computer and go through the hassle of recording his show daily and using electricity to run the computer and make it so that my $15/month Sirius is disabled for 6 hours daily while I am recording his show - basically meaning I need a SECOND unit to bring in the car to work with me if I want to listen on the drive to work.

Would I go through such a hassle to listen to Stern? For the last 11 months the answer has been yes. I DO have 2 subscriptions and 2 radios and I DO dedicate my $1800 laptop to recording it daily and I DO go through the hassle of having to set the radio to channel 100 every night - it has an auto turn on feature but not to change the station so I need to make sure its on the right station before I go to sleep. I DO have wires all over my desk to accomplish this.

Will I continue to do it when I can get the Stern MP3s for free and can just burn my own music to CDs that Sirius doesnt currently offer (Reggaeton)? Maybe, Maybe not... I havnt decided.

Thanks for the hostility guys

Are you insane?

First of all - I have been downloading Stern MP3s for the last year - because even tho I record them off my Sirius reciever, sometimes I need my laptop for work and cant leave it home and miss the recording so I download off 3rd party sites. I guess by everyone elses definition, its not stealing because I am a subscriber?

I have been downloading stern for the last 4 years and not a single call from the FBI. He went off the air in my local market 4 years ago and if you know where to look you can get the show, usually commercial free with the commercials edited out. Its not a blank 6 hour MP3, and they are not tracking your IP, and as far as I know, its not illegal to download an MP3 named "Stern 12/01/06". In fact I am nearly certain its not illegal to download any MP3s regardless of what they are - its illegal to UPLOAD them.

Consider it this way... what if I took a copyrighted music song in MP3 format and changed the name to be Sirius.exe and said it was a cool new program that shows Sirius guide listing that you can download. You download it, and it plays an MP3 of howard stern that you just downloaded without your knowledge. Is the FBI going to come arrest you for that? You did download what you consider an "illegal" mp3?

If you think the FBI is going to spend $100k of tax payer dollars to compile a case against a private citizen in the USA for downloading an MP3 or even one million MP3s (notice I said DOWNLOADING, not UPLOADING) and then spend another $50k per year to incarcerate that person, then you sir have no concept of reality and probably still believe that if you dont brush your teeth, the boogey man will get you.

I don't think posting your stealing ways in OPEN FORUM is a good idea AND if you don't think the FBI likes to make examples of people JUST CAUSE you are living in a cave.

Someone will be first...and I'm SURE posting like this will only help the cause.

Why are you turning recording the show into a half-day multi-thousand dollar issue? I've done it practically EVERY day for the last year with an S-50.

If everyone cancelled Sirius to download it for free, they would go out of business and you wouldn't have a show to download. The honest people have to suffer the burden of the leeches. Quit trying to act like you're some kind of rebel with a cause, you're just downright selfish only thinking of yourself and screw everyone else... Did you expect us to stand up and applaud your bold stand against The Man?

wow...

i am just shocked. sternfanny, how old are you? 18-24?

maybe you need to read the copyright law.

just becuase you are not being arrested, doesnt make it legal...

the original act of uploading is illegal. and downloading something illegal is well... ILLEGAL.

ignorance is NOT AN EXCUSE. you can make all sort of excuses to make yourself happy...

And you sir have no common sense whatsoever. So it's illegal to just go into a bank and say you want $15,000 for free? It's illegal to go into a Rite Aid and walk out with free drugs?

He needs his diaper changed. It's people like you that make me wonder, why are thiefs such losers?

Actually, yes - you could in fact get sued, and potentially that can lead to your arrest in certain cases.

Read this:
http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/internet/02/02/pepsi.itunes.ad.ap/

Do you want to pay several thousand dollars and be forced to appear on a TV commercial (public service)? Well, neither did all those people. All they did was download digital content - they didn’t even serve it up to anyone else. Keep talking and ‘the people’ will come one day with ‘the warrant’ to take your computer(s) away for forensic analysis (to prove you stole the nasty good Stern - more evidence for SIRIUS to sue you.) They'll subpoena you too - and also get the records from your ISP. Are you down for all that over some Howard Stern recordings? Keep your sub active with SIRIUS and your mouth closed about your evil ways, the boggie man comes in all shapes and sizes.

Post The guy is a smuck and is an XM stock holder

XM shareholders get a login then try to post negative garbage on here. I have seen many of such posts end up on the Yahoo Message board posted from here from Sirius Backstage Forum. just look up yahoo finance and lookup stock symbol XMSR.

Once in awhile you will see posts from here end up there. XM has commercials along with there music oh how fun.
