The only things I would add are that the new Starmate 4 out now, does have a docking feature, so that should make the naysayers happy, or maybe not. Also, I realize you are a cable guy, but if you want another option for good sound with your Sirus, is to subscribe to the Dish Network. Their feed is way better than the regular over the air feed of Sirius, although I wonder how well it sounds in comparison to the premium internet feed. But that might be really splitting hairs on that one.

thanks Akmaro..

So the Starmate 3 (replay) doesn't dock at all right?? Anybody hear about issues of the jacks wearing out on these units? I plan on transferring mine between 2 vehicles and home. Each place will have a permanent kit, only the receiver will be moved. I've been reading about hardware reliability being an issue, but again it's tough to buy everything I read in these consumer reviews.

"The services themselves are basically identical, and I would really recommend you go for XM for these reasons.
1. Sirius customer support is a pain to deal with. My 'factory direct' radio was DOA and it too 2 MONTHS to get it replaced through their antiquated RMA system. Even when things were finally worked out, they still dont post any tracking numbers on the order status page, so you have to call them to get it.
2. The radios are bulky and not well designed. This starmate replay in particular doesnt use any sort of docking system, so every time you want to move it to the house/car you have to disconnect the antenna, power, and audio output cable independently.
3. Sirius trys to stick you for additional services, like CD-quality streaming internet radio. It just makes sense to me if someone bought a $100 radio and paid for a subscription, they should be entitled to the best services that sirius has to offer. Instead, you have to pay an extra $2.99 a month for CD quality streaming radio. Otherwise it sounds like your listening while your in a swimming pool."

an idiot worote this. please dont believe everything you read! my starmate 3 is a much better radio than my roady xt (xm). and the 3.000 for cd quality internet radio is because the riaa makes sirius pay them for everyone listning. its not sirius's choice. they have to charge it!

True audiophiles would never claim CD's are fantastic. I think vinyl would win in comparison..
agreed to a degree. until you reach the last song on each record. then cassettes sound better. i have 2 turntables and about 1500 vinyl lps. and 2/3rs of them sound horrible on the last song on each side. my 2 turntables are a pioneer pl-s40 and an audio technica that i just bought from the needle doctor. i cant afford a audioiphile quality turntable oh both have new stylus on them.

Vinyl reaches higher highs and lower lows. If you look at the waveform for the audio on a cd vs vinyl it is very different. I'm not giving up cd's anytime soon, but there is definitely a place for vinyl. There's a warmth that only vinyl has. And I gaurantee if you spend a little time reading audiophile discussions, vinyl remains the overall winner..

In my opinion, SACD is king. DVD-A is wonderful as well, all depends on the quality of the release of course. Beck's Sea Change in SACD multichannel is the best quality audio I've ever heard. Also stereo SACD into my 2 channel tube amp is sweet..

i completely agree. i still buy new releases on vinyl. but some of them. stryper reborn for instance. sound horrible on the last songs? i have set everything just like the needle doctor told me too..believe it or not the old ktel records from the 70s are some of the few i own that dont do this. and anything on warner brothers. worst offenders are epic and rca (except for elvis?)

oh and my osmond albums all sound good. (polydor and mgm)

Just to clear this up, the Starmate Replay with the plugs exposed on the left side is known as the ST2 (which I own). The Starmate 3 & 4 (which are the new ones out now) have the single modular plug that allows them to be moved easily between the docks. The ST2 has no dock. The only difference between the Starmate 3 & 4 (ST3 & 4), is that the Starmate 3 has no replay function, to store and replay 44 minutes of content. Beyond that they're both the same. Hope that helps clear up the confusion.

It seems to me that most subscribers are paying for content and no commercials at least thats what i use to justify my subscription. sure the quality could be a little better but its not horrible. on a side note the worst i heard was on raw dog i forgot who it was but you could hardly hear the comedian. again music quality is not that bad.
