Unhappy The Pulse .. please stop!!!

Seriously .. The Pulse has to stop playing those promos with the mom singing and the kid telling her to stop. It sooo annoying!! I bet only like 10% of Sirius’s subscriptions are mothers with children. I am embarrassed when I’m driving in my car with friends and this comes on. Please stop!!!

OH get over it already! You are a prime of example of what is wrong with youth today. You are all so busy trying to impress each other. It is radio and you'd be surprised how many women listen to The Pulse.. probably more than you think.

Sorry DAB, but that promo is beyond annoying! And the same can be said for 90% of the ones SIRIUS airs. That's exactly the kind of cheesy promotional gimmick I'd expect to hear on FM radio. I have no problem whatever with promos every now and then, I'd just like to hear less of them and have them get straight to the point without making me want to claw my eyes out!!

Couldn't be much worse than those promos on Sirius Love.

Couldn't be as bad as the ones on 90's on 9. They haven't updated anything in years.

Sorry Chad, but you find everything annoying, so what is new. It is just a promo, I think some of you spend to much time finding stuff to gripe about. Why do I care if my friends find a promo that SIRIUS does stupid?

Overall I think all the channels play station ids too much, but I have no issue with this particular promo because of what someone else may think about it. GEEZ!!! That is just ridicules.

Here's the thing - The Pulse is supposed to be an FM-sounding station sans commercials; the idea being that it tempts people away from FM by offering them what they like and then more on the other channels. Hits1 is exactly the same. Sometimes I get bored by the channels that are too focussed and I like a little bit more variety.

The format, hot AC, is traditionally skewed towards women 25-35, so the promos are probably right on the money.

I read that this morning and decided not to touch it with a 10 foot pole. Down here in the South it is okay to talk to yourself, but when you start answering your own questions and stuff... well uh oh! LOL

I am not sure the format is actually hot AC, but I do agree that overall this channel is skewed towards women. This is why the promo makes sense to me. But the OP seemed upset because his friends thought it was silly and apparently that embarrassed him. I don't get that, but maybe I just too old too.

My beef with SIRIUS overall on this subject is that on ALL Channels they play the Station ID too darn much. In this regard XM has a much better balance in terms of playing their channel ID's.

I like the Pulse, but it isn't a channel that I can listen too every day all day.

Sorry, but I don't believe that for a second about The Pulse. And I'm sure those women are just as annoyed as the rest of us are. Personally I don't buy the whole music demographic bullshit of who supposedly listens to what. It doesn't matter what your gender, race, age, creed, species, etc. is....*good music is good music and the promos should reflect that. And to try to lure in a certain group of people just because your focus group [that's probably spent god knows what on the study] has determined that XXXXXXXX are the main listeners is complete and utter bullshit. SIRIUS needs to quit mimicking the FM format in the many, many ways they often do...and yes that includes promos and station IDs. And I'm not referring to simply The Pulse here.

Seriously, soccer moms singing (or anyone for that matter) and children yapping about whatever is annoying to EVERYONE. At least on this planet it is. Keep that cheesy shit off of satellite radio because people are not forking over money to listen to bits blatantly taken from the FM radio playbook!

*I'm not referring to music specifically on The Pulse but to all good music in general. And no, I DO NOT consider all the music on The Pulse good.

Just how many soccer moms do you know Chad? You are totally clueless man! Now I know some soccer moms and YES brother they do sing. That Promo is so right on that it goes to show you how disconnected you really are from this demographic.

You'd be surprised. In the ideal world, everyone would have wonderful taste in music and regular radio wouldn't suck, but the fact is that that just isn't the case. I work in radio (thankfully for some non-sucky stations), have done for 13 years now, and as much as we hate to live and die by what the consultants and the focus groups tell us, thay invariably turn out to be right. The Pulse, and stations like it, are EXACTLY what most women in the target agegroup want. F25-35 love this format. They love the whole "nothing that will embarrass you and your kids as you drive to school" sort of stuff. Y'know; "no hard rock! no rap! it's the one station at work EVERYONE can agree on!" sort of crap. On the local level, even though we jocks hate to do it, they love to hear about swap-meets, charity events and what's on the school lunch menu. It's what matters to them. Your target audience - P1 we call 'em - is who matter the most in a station format. That's who you cater to, that's who you want to attract and keep so your Time Spent Listening increases so you can more effectively sell to advertisers and keep the money rolling in. It works. I've seen it work. I live it every day.

People like you and I more or less live and die by the focussed channels. The Vault and Classic Rewind and all that sort of gubbins, but most women that The Pulse targets want to hear the hits... and that's all. They don't want b-sides and album tracks, they don't want "this was nearly a hit in 1978, but listen to the complex bassline". They want to hear the songs that are popular now and they want to hear the songs that WERE popular when they were younger. You and I both know that Led Zeppelin and the Who made some awesome music, but some people don't want to listen to that every day. Some not at all. The beauty of Sirius is that it caters to EVERYONE. The music nuts, the fickle flickers and the people who are only interested in what made the top 10 since 1990.

"Sirius mimicking the FM format" really is a good thing. Most casual radio listeners, and this is especially true with the F25-35 demo, don't want to change to something new - they want an improvement on what they know they already like and, as a stockholder, if that brings more people over to Sirius, all the better.

I appreciate and understand your passion, though.
