Default Do you care about DJ's on the channels?

Sorry if this is a duplicate post but searching "dj's" returned nothing. (probably because it's small term).

Anyway, I could care less about the DJ's on the music channel's. I just want to hear it go from one song to the next and could care less about what the DJ has to say. I would think getting rid of many of them would save the company a lot of cash. Do people really care about DJ's?

Some do a good job. They don't talk between every song, and when they do it's a sentance or two that relevant to the songs that just played, or will be playing. Pure Jazz is a good example of how I like it done.

Those channels below 14 that try and be like an FM station are examples of too much talking.

i should clarify, it's not that they do a bad job, i just have no use for them. i'd rather hear it go song to song rather than someone give me some type of information.

Wow. The first reply wasn't "buy an Ipod or listen to CDs". I'll make a prediction that one of those replies won't be far behind though.

I could care less if the djs were there or weren't there, but usually what they have to say is somewhat useful information about bands that I don't know, at least on the channels I listen to, so they really don't bother me. at least the interruptions are wayyyyy less than on FM.

Yeah, and don't forget the infamous "jukebox" reply or the complaints about them using obscenities.

Now to answer the question for the 300th time in the simplest possible way:

- I like having DJ's as long as they keep the conversation relevant to the music.

- I don't like when DJ's talk over the music, sing or babble on forever about absolutely nothing.

Its called RADIO, and limited DJ's available on Sirius is a good thing, when they start becoming too FM/AM like(talkative), then it becomes a problem. DJ's add personality to the service, its not just an over the air -ipod service.

I forgot about how DJ blabber adds personality to the service as well. Perhaps someone will tend to that.

Oh wait....

I'll give you the name of two of my favorite channels that are great primarily due to the DJs: Disorder and Underground Garage. I think on both of these, the DJs actually pick the songs to play, and their knowledge definitely adds to the experience of listening - they can tie all the songs together to make it a cohesive whole. I'm listening to Vin Scelsa on Disorder right now - one of the best.

Yup. UG has an unbelievable line up of DJs with first hand knowledge of the music they play. My other favorite DJ is Mojo Nixon over on Outlaw Country.

Yes, I Love Vince... I ususally catch his late night replays. Meg runs a tight ship and they all have a vast knowledge of music. I don't think there are any of the DJ's on Disorders that I don't like. Yes that does indeed add personality to the channel, so get over it psychodad.

It's a paradox. The original purpose of a DJ was that a "friend" is listening with you, sharing the experience of enjoying the music and and perhaps commenting on it from time to time. But since almost all the Sirius DJ's are voice-tracked, i.e. they record their voices in advance and are not really listening or sharing the experience with you at all, it's just smoke and mirrors.

I totally agree with both of these points. There's nothing worst than a DJ that babbles on and on over a song just to fill time until the lyrics start. I listen to Hard Attack a lot, and they seem to do this quite a bit on there. It's especially annoying there because many of those songs have long intros.

Aside from shutting up once the song starts, the only thing I wish they'd change is to make the DJs live. It's almost pointless to submit a request, because it won't get played for hours, if it gets played at all.

Smile Well let me just take a second to think this over - YES!!!!

I also can name a few great DJ's that would also agree with me!!

I feel that Sirius has decided that computer programming can overcome the PERSONAL FEEL that a great knowledgable person can bring to the fans that turn on that knob and expect to hear music that a real personality would bring.

There are DJ's and then we have someone who think that we want to hear about what they think is important to them and therefore they lose the true purpose of spinning the songs that we want to hear.

Questions, when we want to hear that certain song, will the computer programmer make it happen. I don't think so.

You, the ones who don't care about the DJ's, be careful what you wish for. It's easy to say that you don't need something while you still have it, but once it's gone you might just feel different .

I grew up with DJ's and I for one would have it no other way. When they took Bob "T" off the air, so many people came out and spoke their minds, wow I guess time does make some forget what great music he played because we asked for it.

DJ's will always be around, I just hope that we have not begun to see the last of the REALLY, REALLY "Knowledgable" ones.

My to all of the good DJ's
