Default Why do Sirius DJ's advertise Itunes?

I was listening to Octane this weekend and I heard Kayla say "check out Itunes for their new music" in reference to some band's new album (can't remember who it was). Is it me or is this strange, advertising for a competitor? I thought Sirius had a relationship with Yahoo (?) to buy downloads (similar to XM/Napster)?

I've heard her do it in the past, too, so this wasn't the first time. Why plug a competing music service?

I think it is more of a pop culture reference than anything. It used to be "check them out at your local record store" and not it is just "check them out on itunes"

Sirius has always had trouble with "Communication" whether it be to their subscribers or their employees. The DJ's shouldn't be plugging iTunes, you're correct. I think most of them probably just come in, timetrack their show, and split, and don't know or care much about what the company has going on. Some are (much) better than others about having a clue.

It's turned into a catchphrase or the common word for the act of buying a song, almost. Like people used to say Xerox this instead of copy. I would imagine anyone who downloads music would mentally substitute their preferred service for "iTunes". Of course there's a ton of people that probably DON'T know there are alternatives. I never understand why people would buy tunes from there and then go through the hassle of converting them to play on non-iPods. there's services that sell the song that way.

Don't forget that nowadays quite a few of the lesser known bands are putting their music on iTunes exclusively.
The dj might be saying it because it could be the only place to get the music.
