Post Can anyone explain this??

Can someone explain to me about the canadian/british channels that some people here in the states have claimed to have received with the older sirius units? I ask because when i was on the phone with sirius a few days ago renewing my service( my 2nd year.. yeahhhh!!!!), i asked the rep about how whether its true or not that i heard about some sirius subscribers here in the states that have been claiming that they have received from the update a while back the canadian/british channels from their older receivers. The rep told me that, thats not true, that no one here in the states will be or am able to have received these canadian channels that the only ones that get them are the sirius subscribers in canada. So i was just wondering if this is true or if anyone can explain to me about these channels and if its true if people here in the states really received them on their older units or if this is just a rumor. Also, what new channels from the update a while back ago do we have now that are new? Like tell me what new channels you all have that are new and from the last update we had a while back ago. Thanks and look forward to read what ya'll have to say soon.

Sincerely,
Steve

My Sirius One and my wife Starmate Replay have it. It's even listed online in the channel lineup.

Again this shows how the Sirius reps are often so uninformed. A number of Sirius subscibers received the update around 9/26/06, but it was very scattered. I've included a link to an 18 page thread about the update. Most of your Starmate Replays recieved it (mine as well), and a number of other models. The easiest way to assure you get the complete U.S. and Canadian lineup is to buy a new Starmate or Sportster and the like. But yes, in answer to your question, a lot of us have the complete U.S. and Canadian lineup.

I think the issue is with the channels above 184.

My 3 year old Audivox PNP2 got the Canadian channels that were created under channel 184. These channels came online almost a year ago. (CBC 137 and 138 are two of them). When the latest update came, it added the channels above 184.. My old PNP2 never picked those up. My new Stratus gets them all just fine.

I'm sure it depends on the chipset used in the radios. Many times when a whole new batch of receivers is released they come equipped with more modern decoder chips. I guess anything that was new when the Canadian channels came online, or anything built since then will pick up ALL the channels.....

Hey there... I assume you've got the JVC1 Sirius Connect Tuner. If that is the case those won't upgrade to the Canadian Channels. It has the older 2.5g chipset, which doesn't appear to work.

Well that would be the first one. So you are saying you get all the upper 186 and up Canadian Channels? You might want to check again, because we've always been able to get some Canadian Channels, just not the ones from 186 and up.

Why would I say there are there if they aren't? What would that prove? I hate it when idiots accuse me of lying.

I don't think he was accusing you of lying, I think he was surprised to learn that a JVC1 unit could receive the Canadian channels. Although I'm not sure.
