My Sirius Dilemma
Question My Sirius Dilemma

I bought my father in law the Starmate replay receiver/boom box combo for Christmas. When we were trying to get a good enough signal to activate it, I realised that all the channels were working, like it had already been activated. It is not, to my knowledge, a return or a refub unit - I bought it from CC yesterday and its been in the trunk of my car til today.

Should I be honest and call Sirius for activation or just be happy that it works...?

What you SHOULD do and what I would do are two very different things.

Of course you should enjoy it. Maybe you'll get lucky and get a free lifetime subscription out of it. But odds are it probably is a return/refurb and you just got a receiver that has some time left from whoever bought the original subscription...which means the service is already paid for and could run out at any time. Besides, the CSRs could honestly care less about your "dilemma" and probably wouldn't do anything about it in the first place. And honestly what's the point of calling them to deactivate it only to reactivate right after?

I bought a Streamer from TSS Radio and I got it for a backup tuner at my camp. But the weird thing was when I plugged it in to test it out, it was already activated. It has worked for several months, so why do I want to call and rock the boat. Enjoy!

Damn, DAB, wasn't expecting that from you. Usually you're the fatherly voice of reason.

/If DAB says, "go for it", it can't be wrong!!

Well now if you need me to reason it out. There have been times I've dropped subs, but amazingly I never have any credit on my account. I can't tell you how many times these folks have ripped me off. It is never much.. $6 or $7 here and there. I don't want it to seem like I have a "THEY OWE ME ATTITIUDE" but I don't feel bad about having a tuner that for whatever reason has worked since I took it out of the box.

For the first time in many years, I am finally down to one single subscription. If I can help it that is all they will get from this point on. The Stiletto is my all in one, everday, everywhere tuner. I just don't need any other subs.

I'm down to 2 with Sirius. The Stiletto allowed me to drop 1 of my subs because I can pretty much take it anywhere. Sirius really hit a homerun with the Stiletto- best satrad radio I've used to date.

Can't be too much of a home run if everyone is dropping subs because of it...jk

I was thinking that as well... then again, one more unit like the S50 and I would be downloading Howard and listening to him on an Ipod.

I say go for it..I don't think this is a common problem for sirius ie not a big loss. I am hoping to get the stiletto10 for christmas and at that time I will drop one of my 3 subs....sirius has made a ton of money from me between reciever activation fees and all the accesories(sp) I've bought...if iwas to get a free sub I'd call it even
I wish there was a way sirius would offer multiple recievers for just one sub.....that would be niccceeee!!

I had a PNP2 that I bought in July '04. I replaced that with a sportster replay around august '05. When I did that swap out, I never powered up the PNP2 again. Then, after I got married last spring, we had a garage sale so I dug out all of my PNP2 stuff (boombox, car kit, home kit) cause I thought I may be able to sell that.

To my surprise, the PNP2 still worked receiving all channels, and has ever since. It is now out in the garage and rarely used, but it still works. I suspect that the unit wasn't powered on to receive the kill signal and at this point (over a year later), those signals either aren't coming down specific to my radio, or are extremely sporadic that I'm just getting lucky.

However it works, I'm glad I decided to try it out before selling it in the garage sale!
